If this happens, your opinion of Pioli would be...

OK let's say Pioli is NOT convinced that Cassel is the only QB for us but can't work out a trade UP for RGIII or Luck. He looks at the free agents and decides they are stop gaps at best. SO...

He either trades way DOWN in the first round and picks a QB (slight reach) or he takes a QB in the second round.

Would that significantly change your opinion of Pioli?

Not my point. People are making assumptions based only on their negativity with no rational and realistic reason to believe that, and then claiming it as fact. We do not know what Pioli plans to do with the QB position. That is the only fact.

People are making assumptions based on Pioli's performance thus far. The negativity doesn't come out of thin air and you know that.

The funny thing is that every team but the Chiefs have drafted a first round QB within the last 30 years. Not every team is going get one, but the odds of getting one with out drafting one in the first place is a shocking 0% if you can believe that?

I don't believe that because it isn't true. 0% is completely wrong. I can name several teams that acquired a franchise QB without drafting one. Green Bay didn't draft Favre. New Orleans didn't draft Brees. The Giants didn't draft Eli Manning. Denver didn't draft John Elway. And Kansas City didn't draft Len Dawson. Those are just off the top of my head.

Green Bay drafted Rodgers in the first round. He said every team drafted a QB in the first round, not necessarily their franchise QB.

I'm not sure how to personify my views on Pioli. I think in a general sense you can't get too high (2010) and you can't get too low (2009, 2011) because so many things are so often in flux in the NFL. Take 2011, for instance. I whole-heartedly believe that had the major injuries not occurred, we would have won the division going away. And I actually believe they would have won a playoff game (against Pittsburgh) even without Moeaki, Charles and Berry had they managed not to choke the opportunity that they had away. So while there definitely are certain moves that I wish had never been made (Cassel...), or that different decisions had been made in some instances (like not having a competent vet backup QB on the roster in 2011), I really do believe that the roster has become steadily stronger over the last three years. And at the end of the day that's his job. So while I don't think he's been the "GM of the year" in any sense, to date, I also don't think he's been horrendous as he's sometimes (or oftimes lately) been portrayed.

I guess I'd call that lukewarm approval. I think the not-so-new front office has been 'okay'. I would like the not-so-new front office to become 'great'. And in that light I actually think the scenario otherkyle set is the best possible one for the team moving forward, but at the same time I don't believe there's any chance it would happen. But if it did, despite the odds, it would make me feel better. I really do think the quarterback is really one of the only remaining pieces to be put into place, and that it's time that they come to grips with the reality that yes they tried but that Cassel wasn't the answer and it's time to move on.

His meaning isn't really clear.

He might be saying that the odds of getting a first round QB without drafting a QB in the first round is 0%, though that technically is also not true.

Well, Denver got a first round QB without drafting him. So did the Giants. Both examples are in my reply. So his statement is wrong either way.
