Sunglasses buying philosophy

I'm getting old, and I love it, mostly.

Never been a sunglasses wearer, thus never been a sunglasses buyer.

Don't know where I'll land. I am sunglasses-agnostic.

Which are you? Why?

When the present pair breaks, I go to the nearest C or grocery store and buy another pair.

Nice! I have seen the "Roy super specials" in the fishing section in there.

Several years ago, I finally bought a fairly expensive pair of sunglasses. Over time, the lenses got scratched up a bit, which pissed me off, so I bought a pair of cheap ones. They broke one day, so I went back to wearing the old expensive pair. I got another cheap set later, and they broke, as did the next ones and the ones after that. Always the screw connecting one of the temples falls out or the hinge breaks. Always. So now, I still wear the old scratched ones, and I'll probably replace them with another expensive pair and actually take care of them so they don't get scratched up.

So I'm definitely in the expensive camp. You get what you pair for.

I'm the exact opposite. I'll lose the cheap ones, but I make sure I know where my expensive ones are. I'm the same way with ink pens.

I just really don't lose things anymore. When I was younger, I'd lose things like lighters, gloves and sunglasses all the time (I've probably lost 20 Zippo lighters over the years, eventually I stopped buying them). But now, I just tend to wear things out.

The fact that I don't drink much anymore probably helps.

What do those that need prescription glasses do? Can you get the higher end sunglasses fitted with prescription lenses?

When I got my last set of glasses, they had a BOGO deal and I just picked out a second set of frames and had it tinted. However, I don't wear sunglasses very often (and don't even pretend to be cool).

Whenever I break or lose mine, I just tell my wife and she'll pick up a new pair when she does her other shopping. I never know what kind or from where. I very rarely ever go shopping or go to any store. Maybe once a year, maybe. And then it's usually to get home maintenance stuff when I do. (I hate to shop)

I don't often lose mine, but they do get beat up, especially at work. Dropping a pair off a 30' scissor lift tends to break them, or they get covered in paint overspray, etc.

A few years ago they finally came out with contact lenses for severe astigmatism so I was able to get rid of my glasses. I wore rx sunglasses for a while until then...

Any-who, as soon as I switched over, I went out and bought a nice pair of sunglasses. Spent around 70 - 90 bucks...
They lasted a month and broke. I exchanged them and the new pair did the same thing. I said screw it and got a 30 dollar pair from Cabelas. 3 years later, I still have them.

I need a pair that can put up with some abuse and I wouldn't freak out if I broke them.
Between walking/running in the woods while hunting, sitting in the golf-bag or perched on top of my head like a tiara... I'm just too rough on them to buy an expensive pair.

How do you like those golf-specific lenses? I've heard them mentioned before, but never looked into it...

I used to always lose my cheapo sunglasses, so I decided to buy a nice pair of Oakleys, thinking that I'd keep better track of them if I spent more money on them. It worked - I still have the same pair after 10 years. The ocean even decided to give them back to me after they fall off in a wave.

They're pretty beat up by now, and I'm probably due for a new pair, but just not sure I want to let these go. We've been through so much together...
