2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

I'd love to see Hos do it.

Butler will probably get the nod.

Moose has natural power, he could hit a ton in that type of setting.

Moose has a great stroke going. I'd rather not have that be messed with. Same with Butler.

Send Hosmer out there. He already has zero clue what he's doing at the plate right now.

Speaking of the ASG - being about a month away - are any of you going to the game or HRD?

Wondering what the ticket market looks like. Face value was about a $1000 for 2 infield box seats to the Derby and Game combined when I went back in 2009.

For the ASG down the lines on the lower deck is from $800-1200, then closer to the plate is even higher. Upper deck is around $500-600. These from stubhub. And the HRD is around $500-$700 on the lower deck. Basically nothing in the outfield, however, with the new stadium there is a lot of prime standing room out there. Upper deck is around $200.

Well, that's what people on SH are asking, not necessarily what the market is paying.

I was wondering if anyone had actually bought at FV or on the secondary market, and if so, what they paid.

You couldn't buy single game tickets for these games. You had to buy season tickets. I think the minimum purchase was about 10 games but I am not sure on the prices the packages.

Jonathan Broxton's Trade Value Is Rising For The Royals
By David Cassilo - Newsdesk writer

The Kansas City Royals closer should garner plenty of interest from other teams.

Jun 4, 2012 - If Kansas City fails to get back in the AL Central race by July, the team figures to once again be sellers at the trade deadline.

One player that they figure to get a lot of calls about is closer Jonathan Broxton. His trade value has been on the rise recently, according to Boston.com.

A decision the Royals made last week will likely enhance Broxton’s trade value. They have been cautious with him because of past elbow issues (he had surgery last Sept. 19 to remove bone spurs), but they’re throwing away the kid gloves. Broxton is no longer restricted to pitching no more than two days in a row. He was 12 for 14 in save opportunities entering Saturday, with a 1.74 ERA.

Broxton has been filling in at closer since Joakim Soria went down with an injury. Contenders that could be looking for an upgrade at closer are the Washington Nationals, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

#Royals have signed their third-round pick, LHP Colin Rodgers of Baton Rouge, La., and... appear close to a deal with first-round pick, RHP Kyle Zimmer of San Francisco. Will start likely in Surprise but may go to Idaho Falls.

Crosses fingers for one more good month from Brox.

Stole this from another board: "In the 2 weeks since his slump ended, Eric Hosmer has a .364/.383/.591/.974 line with 2 homers. He's gained 100 OPS points in 2 weeks."

In other words, don't mess with Hosmer right now...
