That's kind of why I did point it out...
There have been no points taken off the board. However, there may have been points put on the board because of this approach. It's hard to say.

The "relax" factor (which you did point out) isn't the only reason why the more aggressive approach may have been beneficial, as I pointed out in my response.

Really?

WIth our kicker you're telling me a 40 yard kick isn't above 50%?

Since when?...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I'm telling you that there were no points on the board to take off. I'm not sure where the 50% standard comes from, but it's a fact that our kicker was exactly 50% between 30 and 39 yards that day so it's certainly not a no brainer that he'd be >50% on a 40 yarder.

The standard comes from his performance over the course of his career. You're right that it's not a no-brainer, but it would be about 80%+ chance of making that kick.

No, his entire career wasn't played in swirling winds. The answer is somewhere between 80%+ and just north of zero.

The "standard" in question though, was the standard at which you declare points scored before the kick is even made.

I believe it was Grunhard who, earlier this week, said that NFL kickers should be able to hit a FG of between 30-39 yards in a hurricane.

I'm not excusing the decision because of wind.

I appreciate the statistical arguments that claim that kicking the FG would be the wrong choice, but the game situation legitimately suggested trying to take points.

I'm tired of his shit.

Yes, I initially backed him, because I was completely fooled by his Belichick-coached and Moss-aided success in New England.

There's a glimmer of hope for the rest of this year that he might improve, but my gut says, **** this guy and the $63 million contract he rode in on.
