Richardson, Albert, Winston in PFF OT ratings today

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...nsive-tackles/

Quote:
Today I’ll be looking at offensive tackles and tomorrow I’ll move onto guards, before finishing with centers, tight ends, and running backs in the days that follow.

How I’ll be doing that is pretty simple: three years of data from our Pass Blocking Efficiency numbers–a stat of ours that shows which players are giving up the most (and least) pressure relative to how much they’re on the field in pass-blocking situations, factoring in the nature of the pressure as well.

It works itself out by first adding sacks to three quarters the value of the total number of hits and hurries then dividing that result by the player’s pass-blocking snaps. Multiply by 100 and subtract that from 100 and you have the PBE. The closer the final result is to 100 the better.
Cliffs:

Richardson the 6th worst OT over 3 years.

Winston the 8th best. Albert 12th, with precious few left tackles ahead of him.

Seriously, Justin Houston sat behind Andy Studebaker for much of the early season, basically didn't rush the passer the first half of the season, and was asked to drop back into coverage more than any other OLB in the league. Does that matter? Nope..

Get over it, Clady is bawls. You bought into the hype from his rookie year a bit too much. Tamba's gonna eat his lunch again this year.
Houston started right away, didnt he?..and Clady is a good player that will thrive blocking for PM...a quarterback that gets the ball out in time.

One pretty terrible 2009 season shouldn't mean shit to a tackle if he's got the tools, the smarts, and the opportunity. There's no other position quite like offensive line in the NFL where determination fused with natural talent can win the day.

The guy's an above average LT. He's a kind of jack of all trades master of none, except he does a pretty good job at all the duties you want out of a starting LT.

Sac and his other haters really need to admit it- we don't need an elite LT. "Pretty good" will do just fine. Put a real QB behind this offensive line and watch defenses get raped.
In his rookie year, Albert was allowed by Herman ****ing Edwards and staff to put on weight, wasn't taught proper technique.

They essentially asked him to lean on his man, and it worked pretty well against average RDE, but was a problem against a couple of the better ones.

In his second season, Todd Haley and staff had Albert take that weight off and began the process of teaching him real tehnique, think he had the potential to be very good when combining technique with his natural quickness, quickness which was the reason he was drafted to play LT.

He struggled mightlily that second season, but took a big step forward last year.

This year, we should see him start to reach his ceiling.

He hasn't yet begun to touch it.

Once again, qft. Albert is going to hopefully find a nice balance this year and perform the best we've seen him. Additionally, he is in a contract year and it does entice him to play better/work harder.

Maybe he was in for the first few snaps, but Studebaker played close to half the snaps. I remember conversation about why Studebaker was getting so much time especially passing downs.

I agree except for the Haley teaching technique part. They seemed to have wasted quite a bit of time teaching him to just fall on the ground. Or was that leftover from the Herm era? That was infuriating and would knock him down to Richardson level of awful when they'd have him do that. Thankfully someone came to their senses stopped it.

Another thing I think has helped his play improve and get more consistent is his weight. Like you point out it was fluctuating for his first 2-3 seasons, and he was doing what his coaches wanted so I can't fault him too much for that whole mess (same with the bad technique he was taught).

I'm anxious to see how he does this year, between his improvement and the new line coach, I think he could solidify close to a top 5 LT, and I'd love for the Chiefs to be able to keep him around and keep unity on the line for a few years. That'd help a lot for getting a new QB (rookie or veteran), and also could either get the best out of guys like Charles and Hillis, or else could allow us to plug in just about anyone and get good yardage out of them.

I bet at least half of the sacks Albert has "allowed" were well after the 3.5 second that the ball should be out.

I've always felt that's the way sacks should be credited.

If the quarterback takes the sack after 3.5 seconds have passed in the play, it should go against the qb, not the linemen.

At that point the linemen has done his job.

Oh, and btw...unless a change is made of Cassel has a football epiphany, Albert will be the next good player that wants to leave after the year.

MOTHER**** YOU, MARK CASTLE!!
