Yes, really. He's one of the better picks in the top 10, in a year that was terrible at the top.

Rushing the passer is a luxery that 3-4 DE's rarely can do.
Opposing teams are selecting with increased frequency to pass against our base defense because they know the Chiefs will not get any pass rush with Dorsey and Jackson in the game. The argument that they are run stoppers in a fail in a game where they are having to more and more provide some pressure as a rusher in passing downs.

The bottom line is and always will be players and this team just has not had any good BFF type DL guys going back more than a decade. I think they are on track, we'll see if some of the new players like Bailey and Powe, Poe or somebody can get pressure during passing downs.

Speaking of passing downs, you don't want your DL "taking up blockers" during a pass play. What has been going on here is that the staff is buying the team time giving you catch phrases like "we need them to take up blockers" yadayada. Well that's all dandy during run plays, but to have 3 linemen just standing around engaged on blockers during a pass play is just laughable suggestion. That is coach - speak, for sure.

You have to be good enough to "contain rush" your way to the QB and that depends on what your OLB's are doing also. A good NT helps too, he is the one in the middle that absolutely MUST 2 gap his way up field. Sometimes you make your ROLB play contain rush while your RDE comes up the b gap, but you have to have a player at RDE that can get it and Dorsey is not that guy.

They really need that guy at RDE that can apply pressure. It's not really about sacks, but sacks will accumulate when you get pressure from DL positions. Poe could perhaps fill in this season, Powe is fairly quick so maybe he can get it going there.

Somebody has got to get that position going in order for this type of defense to get working.

Between Bailey, Poe, Powe & Jackson, somebody has got to start applying pressure from the DL.
You are an idiot. The defensive lines job on each and every play is to engage and play the run. Once they've read and recognized that the play is not a run, they are to disengage the blocker and begin to rush the QB. The big problem is disengaging blockers once they've made their read, Dorsey more so than Jackson.

SNR? Had a point though, it doesn't help when the NT gets handled and clogs your inside rushing lane. Basically forcing Dorsey and Jackson to try to come from the outside, and giving the QB room the step up in the pocket, or to the side of the other DE.

I get it. But the common denominator is that qb pressure from any of the 3-4 teams is in general not generated by the dl spot and that the 80s Giants are more of an anomaly than a barometer of solid 3-4 dline play.

Are you sure you're not a Chiefs fan? Because you sound like one.

Nothing like rationalizing taking a one-dimensional player with the 3rd overall pick just because a handful of other teams ****ed up their pick.

Chiefs are "loaded" on both sides of the ball. Two of three analysts pick Chiefs to win the division.

There's nothing objective about your comment.

He's either a good pick at 3rd overall, or he's not.

Hint: He's not.

What other teams did on draft day is irrelevant.

There were 250+ prospects drafted that weekend, only two of them were unavailable to us. And we ended up with a one-dimensional player at a non-impact position.

Look, I'm glad the kid is at least above average against the run. At least we're getting something out of him, and he's not a complete bust.

But to rationalize a bad pick because other teams made mistakes as well?

That's a completely objective analysis.

Tyson Jackson was a terrible pick. Maybe if he had been picked in the 2nd round he'd be good value.

As it is there are 10-12 players from that first round who are better.
