I remember yelling at the Tv last year when, on multiple occasions, all it would have taken was one of those plays to get the first, but they called some bullshit and we had to punt.

The playcalling the last few years has been atrocious. Too much sideways BS. And to make matters worse too much running straight into 8-10 man fronts. I lay that on the coaching. 3rd and 5 inside the 20 and we run a toss play. After gaining 1 yard on 1st down against a 9 man front we run the ball straight up the gut against another 8-9 man front on 2nd down. Elway beat us int he playoffs arguably on a short pass to Sharpe over the middle when we were stacked to stop TD. It wasn't a great pass or a pass that took a great QB to make. It was a simple play call for Sharpe to chip, if that and just get behind the stack and Elway just tossed it up there. Anotehr thing I didn't see last night that we MUST improve on is our screen passes. This just has to happen. You get Charles and Hilis out in some space with some good blocking and shit is going to roll. Also another way to counter defenses stacking the run. But the blocking has to be there and Cassel has to actually throw it to the right team.

I'm thinking we will be surprised by Cassel's improvement this year. When you are literally one of the worst QB's in the league you can only get better.......right...............right?

When your QB can't threaten a defense past 20 yards, it's a lot easier to defend screens.

This is why Cassel really sucks. He makes everyone worse. Defenses KNOW he sucks. They defend him differently than they defend good QBs.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If the D is blitzing and crashing going 20 yards downfield is not in the mix of why they are doing it. Not against use, anyway. Teams were crashing because we were running the ball and running the ball only. We were not going down field. We were predictable as **** with that stupid draw play we ran at least once a series. Screens are just one thing we didn't do and it had nothing to do with Cassel not going deep. Sliding the pocket is something else we didn't or weren't able to do, either. We lined up and either ran right into the teeth of the defense, ran the same ole' tired draw play or Cassel dropped back to the same spot every time. Not enough bootlegs, not enough screens, not enough mis-direction and not enough sliding the pocket. We were lacking in creativity to say the least.
