It's official: Ricky Stanzi will be the No. 2 quarterback in the Kansas City Chiefs second preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. Not the No. 2 for the entire season; just for this game. I said earlier today that I wouldn't be surprised if Stanzi gets the nod simply for the sake of giving him a fair chance with the second team.

Stanzi and Brady Quinn are battling for the No. 2 job and throughout camp there isn't a clear leader. Most would say Quinn has been better but it's not like he's lighting the world on fire.

As the KC Star's Adam Teicher notes, the fact that Stanzi gets the nod as the No. 2 in Saturday's game shows that this thing isn't over. Stanzi still has a shot. Maybe not a great one but still a shot.

Danny Parkins made a good point on 610 Sports today about this. Stanzi hasn't been given many opportunities to work with the second team in game action. If this is a true competition then Stanzi deserves time with the second team to show what he can do with better talent.

Put this one on your checklist for Saturday night. We'll be watching the backup battle closely.

This year, yes of course. Now I'll give Matt the benefit of doubt and say it is almost impossible for a QB to succeed when he is hated by the coach. Millions of OC's and no one backing him had to be tough. I want Matt to win because if he does we do and I hope that what we've seen from him is not his best because if it is; Stanzi will be a much better QB than Cassel ever will.

That's the best part about it. He has shown it in the few times he's seen the field. It is obvious to anyone who looks beyond 2-7. Most that back Stanzi could see the shit last year in the preseason. In just a few plays he's looked better than Matt has his whole ****ing career.

Pretty much. If Stanzi starts the season #3 behind Quinn you can pretty much forget about him. He's unlikely to ever play a down as the starter in KC. They'll be looking at the draft before giving the team to him.

And why wouldnt you? Cassels replacement isent even on the roster yet. And as loaded as this team seams to be. Next year or so will be the time to draft a QBoTF for this team.

The throw to Baldwin, that was right on point, was safe?

Why draft someone when you don't even want the players we have to play? We have a first round QB now. "Oh, but I don't want THAT first round QB." "I want the magic one". How about we give our guys a chance to play first. I'm not saying stop looking for a QB and I'm not saying Stanzi is Brady, I just want to see the kid play for longer than a few preseason games. I'm willing to ride with Stanzi for a year or two before I put my faith in some other rook.
