It's official: Ricky Stanzi will be the No. 2 quarterback in the Kansas City Chiefs second preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. Not the No. 2 for the entire season; just for this game. I said earlier today that I wouldn't be surprised if Stanzi gets the nod simply for the sake of giving him a fair chance with the second team.

Stanzi and Brady Quinn are battling for the No. 2 job and throughout camp there isn't a clear leader. Most would say Quinn has been better but it's not like he's lighting the world on fire.

As the KC Star's Adam Teicher notes, the fact that Stanzi gets the nod as the No. 2 in Saturday's game shows that this thing isn't over. Stanzi still has a shot. Maybe not a great one but still a shot.

Danny Parkins made a good point on 610 Sports today about this. Stanzi hasn't been given many opportunities to work with the second team in game action. If this is a true competition then Stanzi deserves time with the second team to show what he can do with better talent.

Put this one on your checklist for Saturday night. We'll be watching the backup battle closely.

Cassel pretty much had two good plays in his first two series. The read to Hillis on the TD and his third throw to McCluster. Everything else was the safe usual bullshit. And if you go back on his first pass to Charles....it should have been a completion...but he freaked on the blitz and overthrew him.

Those things could not be said about Cassel in his first year and that is one of my points. Ricky already is ahead of where Cassel was in his first year here.

I can't wait until Tanney gets some snaps in game 4, completes a few passes and then he becomes the savior of the franchise.

JFC. We have a 1st round QB thats played like an undrafted QB. Quinn was drafted in the 1st years ago. If Stanzi can't beat him out for the #2 job then wtf does that say about Stanzi? He's not ready and likely wont ever be ready as a member of the Chiefs.

Great! He's ahead of Cassel from 3 years ago! Now he's just got to complete passes. I don't care how ugly the plays look. I don't care how unorthodox the throws look. Stanzi looks better throwing the ball than Philip Rivers but are you going to take him over Rivers? Stanzi needs to do something besides looking good doing it.

We haven't even got there yet. Let's let things play out and see what happens. If he fails, he fails and I'll admit failure. If he succeeds then you must kiss the ring.

I'll say this, I GUARANTEE the team scores more with Stanzi on the field than with Quinn on the field. No matter what the circumstances.

Here's my whole thing. If what we saw from Cassel in 2010 is his best, then I think we should stop the Cassel Experiment and just go with Stanzi. I feel that his ceiling is higher than Cassel's. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is my feeling.

Now, if Cassel can get better and we keep kicking ass then that makes the team, including Stanzi that much better. So I'll be good with that too.
