It's official: Ricky Stanzi will be the No. 2 quarterback in the Kansas City Chiefs second preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. Not the No. 2 for the entire season; just for this game. I said earlier today that I wouldn't be surprised if Stanzi gets the nod simply for the sake of giving him a fair chance with the second team.

Stanzi and Brady Quinn are battling for the No. 2 job and throughout camp there isn't a clear leader. Most would say Quinn has been better but it's not like he's lighting the world on fire.

As the KC Star's Adam Teicher notes, the fact that Stanzi gets the nod as the No. 2 in Saturday's game shows that this thing isn't over. Stanzi still has a shot. Maybe not a great one but still a shot.

Danny Parkins made a good point on 610 Sports today about this. Stanzi hasn't been given many opportunities to work with the second team in game action. If this is a true competition then Stanzi deserves time with the second team to show what he can do with better talent.

Put this one on your checklist for Saturday night. We'll be watching the backup battle closely.

I doubt it. I think Pioli will be patient with him and give him another year to develop.

Maybe? He did speak highly of him but, I think he needs to show something this week. We are in a position to win now. Pioli's job is on the line and he's not going into another year with a Tyler Palko type of QB. Ultimately, I think he has learned from listening to coaches too much about personnel.

Haley wanted Waters out and Palko as the #2. Palko looked like Stanzi last year. Waters looked better than ever in New England. Peter King even called him the best o-linemen in football.

If Pioli doesn't see something in Stanzi, he's not going to hang his hat on him.

Stanzi will 100% be on the team. Where he is on the depth chart is still up in the air.

No he doesn't. The team made a decision last year that Stanzi wasn't going to touch the field no matter what. They weren't going to rush him. The team was going to bring in outsiders completely unfamiliar with KC's system, and Stanzi was still going to hold a roster spot.

This is his first year working in a normal camp. Regular timeline and non-insane coaching system. He's going to be given time even if he looks horrible this week.

NEITHER QB HAS TAKEN A COMMAND OF THE #2 SPOT YET.

First guy to do it gets it. It's that simple. If Stanzi performs well on Saturday, that spot is as good as his.

I don't like Quinn. I never have. I would rather see Stanzi beat him out but that won't happen. If neither QB takes command, Quinn will get the job because of experience.

Quinn moved the ball and scored points last week. Stanzi did not. If Stanzi wants a spot on the roster, he better move the chains. No excuses this week.

Go back and watch the press conference when they let Haley go. He was scared shitless. If we don't have a winning record, I think Pioli will get canned.

We are a young team that will be good for years. We are in a position to win right now. We are not desperate but, we are ready to win now. I think you misunderstood me. Stanzi is just like everyone else. If we can get better, we will. I don't see him getting any special treatment because he's a QB. When you look at the depth we have at RB, d-line, and linebacker, there are some good players who could get cut. As of now, the smart thing to do would be to go with 2 QBs on the 53 imo.

Now, let me try. You don't know what the **** you are talking about. You have no say in anything involving the team. You make exactly ZERO decisions, so please do not talk as if you do. Pioli isn't giving up on Stanzi this year anyway, that would be dumb. This is his first full offseason why would he give up on him after one year.

Sometimes I wonder if you guys are actually fans. If you actually watch the games or if you just like to bitch to make yourself feel better.
