Kansas Citian behind ‘Glass must go’ ad in Star

Awesome! This guy speaks for alot of us!

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/22...lass-must.html

Last month, Joseph Accurso and buddies from his college days were playing poker, talking about another lost Royals season and wondering whether there was a way to express their anger over the lack of progress under owner David Glass.
Yes, they decided. Take it to the people.

Accurso bought a half-page ad in today’s editions of The Star to present a letter to Glass, imploring him to sell the team.

“I’m a lifelong Kansas City guy, who like a lot of people loves the Royals,” said Accurso, 37, a commercial real-estate broker. “My buddies and I were tired of complaining about it and decided to do something.”

Accurso created a website, no-more-glass.com to solicit donations for the newspaper space, and more than 150 people contributed $5,100, sending anywhere from $5 to $250.
The seven-paragraph letter opens by thanking Glass for buying the team in 2000.
It ends with a plea.

“By any measure when accounting for wins and losses, the records will show the fans have rolled up their sleeves, in the only way Kansas Citians know how, and met our commitments to the franchise we love. There is no measure that can support the same sentiment for your records. It’s time to win again, Mr. Glass. I implore you, Mr. Glass, to sell the team immediately, enjoy the rest of your days with your family without the burden of team ownership, and accept our thanks for keeping the team in Kansas City.”

The Royals say their mission has never changed.
“We love our fans, and they’ve backed us in difficult times,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals senior vice president for business operations. “If anybody out there believes we have motives other than to bring a championship here, they’re mistaken.

“Nobody wants it more than our chairman (Glass) and (general manager) Dayton Moore. There is no lack of commitment. It’s sad there are those who want to spin it differently.”
Accurso, who said he attends a couple of games a year and watches them all on television, said he’s not sure what to expect from the grass-roots campaign.

“I’m not naïve enough to think I can write a letter, Glass will read it and say, ‘I should sell the team,’ ” Accurso said. “But I felt like, ‘Can I take some initiative and at least get a conversation started?’ ”

The recent run of Royals success — a 13-8 August record — didn’t deter Accurso.
“The Royals tend to play better at the end of the year and give everybody hope for the next season,” said Accurso, who was 10 when the 1985 World Series title was the Royals’ last postseason appearance. “I guess after 27 years, I’ve earned the right to be a little cynical.”

They have monster money and want the Royals. They are also Kansas City based.

Are there a lot of people in KC that hate soccer and SKC?

Yes.

Are some of them Royals fans?

Probably. But then, they are probably also Chiefs, Jayhawks, Tigers, etc. fans as well.

SKC isn't a big enough deal for most Royals fans to give a crap.

Interesting. Not one link to an article or site about how "nasty" Royals fans are towards SKC.

If they can do both equally well the I'm all for it. But if it means SKC suffers at all then I say, no thanks. I'd rather have two sets of owners doing things equally well than one doing it half assed for two teams.
No I don't follow SKC. All I know is that they're a good team and have built a good brand. If their ownership is hands on that's fine. I'm saying it's not generally the rule or the norm and isn't necessary for them to do the same if they were to own the Royals. Hire a good GM and give him money... or keep Dayton and give him money.

Well, that certainly wasn't very "nasty".

I am not sure how you link to radio shows. Again, Google it. Nick Wright used to field calls constantly about how he should stop covering soccer and cover the Royals. Keitzman still does. 610s coverage has pretty much dropped off the radar since he left. They have a few hosts who will interview players and have a radio show but they have no one like Nick Wright there pimping the team or the sport any longer. 810 has jumped on the bandwagon. Jack Harry was one of the biggest dickheads in KC regarding soccer and SKC.

A number of times I've posted on SKC articles on the KC Star. Less now than last year as I think they've realized how ridiculous they look defending perpetual losers and saying a successful franchise sucks.

Hopefully if they get the Royals they will dump the D level sport that is skc. Close it, dump it and fill the stadium with cement.

That's all fine and dandy. I just can't see many of the SKC ownership operating like that. Maybe Zach could as he knows them better. They just seem to be the type of people who are in 110% or not at all.

I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I think they could and maybe should do it but maybe not for another four or five years. I'm not sure the Royals could or should wait that long.

Yeah, right. The only championship team in recent memory in this happy with mediocrity town.

If they are indeed the type of owners you describe then I'd welcome them to the K with open arms... and they can keep that little soccer team going too.

You should do some research on how they operate before you decide you want them. But when you do you will realize that anything less is going to be unfortunate for the Royals and KC. I think Sporting Club is laying a new blueprint for how sports ownership should operate and WILL in this town in the future. Really, seeing out of town owners who collect bank deposits and are barely fans is really very sad. The Truman Sports Complex as a whole is sad.
