Kansas Citian behind ‘Glass must go’ ad in Star

Awesome! This guy speaks for alot of us!

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/22...lass-must.html

Last month, Joseph Accurso and buddies from his college days were playing poker, talking about another lost Royals season and wondering whether there was a way to express their anger over the lack of progress under owner David Glass.
Yes, they decided. Take it to the people.

Accurso bought a half-page ad in today’s editions of The Star to present a letter to Glass, imploring him to sell the team.

“I’m a lifelong Kansas City guy, who like a lot of people loves the Royals,” said Accurso, 37, a commercial real-estate broker. “My buddies and I were tired of complaining about it and decided to do something.”

Accurso created a website, no-more-glass.com to solicit donations for the newspaper space, and more than 150 people contributed $5,100, sending anywhere from $5 to $250.
The seven-paragraph letter opens by thanking Glass for buying the team in 2000.
It ends with a plea.

“By any measure when accounting for wins and losses, the records will show the fans have rolled up their sleeves, in the only way Kansas Citians know how, and met our commitments to the franchise we love. There is no measure that can support the same sentiment for your records. It’s time to win again, Mr. Glass. I implore you, Mr. Glass, to sell the team immediately, enjoy the rest of your days with your family without the burden of team ownership, and accept our thanks for keeping the team in Kansas City.”

The Royals say their mission has never changed.
“We love our fans, and they’ve backed us in difficult times,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals senior vice president for business operations. “If anybody out there believes we have motives other than to bring a championship here, they’re mistaken.

“Nobody wants it more than our chairman (Glass) and (general manager) Dayton Moore. There is no lack of commitment. It’s sad there are those who want to spin it differently.”
Accurso, who said he attends a couple of games a year and watches them all on television, said he’s not sure what to expect from the grass-roots campaign.

“I’m not naïve enough to think I can write a letter, Glass will read it and say, ‘I should sell the team,’ ” Accurso said. “But I felt like, ‘Can I take some initiative and at least get a conversation started?’ ”

The recent run of Royals success — a 13-8 August record — didn’t deter Accurso.
“The Royals tend to play better at the end of the year and give everybody hope for the next season,” said Accurso, who was 10 when the 1985 World Series title was the Royals’ last postseason appearance. “I guess after 27 years, I’ve earned the right to be a little cynical.”

Good enough for me...

We have the Glass family now. I'll take my chances.

Our owners go and sit in with the fans. You can find them strolling around the Members Club BEFORE and after the game. Shake hands. Share a beer. They sent the US Open Cup championship cup to the Cauldron to be with the fans after WE won. They post on Twitter and Facebook. They interact with the fans. They consider us one of them and them one of us...

Yeah, they do stupid shit like raise ticket prices after two years which piss off people but it's hard to be mad when they are producing a wining product and are so accessible. Unlike our other teams which routinely raise prices win or lose and are only in town on game days.

Oh, come on. sheesh. This "we get no respect" attitude is exactly why soccer isnt followed the way baseball and football are here. Kevin Keitzman had one of the owners on weekly and ranted and raved about SKC. If these guys owned the royals, it would bring more credibility to the soccer club and more of a unified stance from fans. It would be nothing but positive.

I have it on good authority that Keitzman hates soccer.

Unbelievable. Only 3 teams have a lower payroll. Every team in the division is outspending the Royals by huge margins. Detroit is spending more than double the payroll. Do you work for the Glass family?

You are wrong as usual, almost every skc fan is a royals fan. I also see about a dozen skc jersies each royals game. If a royals fan is being negative, it is not because of skc, it is probably because they are talking to you.

Edit, read further that you are talking out your ass again with no facts. There is a reason why you always see negative responses: your viewpoints are beyond reality and most people dislike you for it.

Yeah, Keitzman got on board last year when his kids kept asking to go to SKC games and would whine and cry when they were told they were going to see the Royals instead. He couldn't bribe them to go. He did this fabulous ten minute rant last season where he compared and contrasted the Royals and Sporting. He's still not a big soccer fan. I think he's more a fan of the SCK experience than he is of soccer. I think he likes it because his kids do and because it's good business. I've heard him say numerous times he's not about watching other leagues or teams just to watch soccer.

Whatever, he's on board because he knows it's where the growth is. The average age of a Chiefs season ticket holder is 42.something. The average age of the SKC season ticket holder is 29.something. I bet the Royals STH would be even older than the Chiefs. Yes, the money lies with the older season ticket base but the future growth lies with the younger one.

FWIW, SKC does not need the Royals to bring credibility to it in any way shape or form. They've been honored worldwide for their management, facililty and work on the field. If anything, SKC ownership brings the Royals some measure of credibility and, most importantly what has been sorely lacking for a LONG time, POSSIBILITY.

If the Royals play their cards right, maybe they will end up with a .001 viewer marketshare on GoalTV for their championship

To match their playoff percentage.
