They breathed a sigh of relief because they took the foot off the gas and had just enough to pull it out. They could have swept the leg and didn't.

Whatever it takes to make you feel better. It's ridiculous to think an NFL team "could have swept the leg and didn't". Denver D stopped Ryan's passes as well as their runs.
