My 2 Cents...I am not trying to defend the Replacement Refs, they did make a bad call on the field...But the Replay Booth should have overturned the call on the field. The people in the Replay Booth are Official NFL Employees(NOT REPLACEMENT). The first thing they should have said..was pass interference, then they should have known that all ties go to the offense.
Again not trying to defend the Replacement Refs(They are Terrible)..this is all on the Replay Booth. |

The Tuck Rule is definately up there. Wow, what a ****job that was (Don't give a crap about the made up rule that was apparently in place it was a fumble). That was the most shocked I've been to an ending of a game until this one.

The rest of those are good calls, but just really ****ing dumb rules. This is a case of the head official being a ****ing idiot, getting a second chance through the replay, and then affirming the same blatant LIE of a call that was made. This call is worse than any of those others. It's the worst I've ever seen in my entire life. |

Hmmm ... the NFL prefers peeing down your leg to offering you an umbrella.
They do admit that there was an offensive PI on the play that wasn't called ... "While the ball is in the air, Tate can be seen shoving Green Bay cornerback Sam Shields to the ground. This should have been a penalty for offensive pass interference, which would have ended the game. It was not called and is not reviewable in instant replay." However, they claim that the call was "simultaneous possession". I guess that happens when two different officials call it two different ways ... "When the players hit the ground in the end zone, the officials determined that both Tate and Jennings had possession of the ball. Under the rule for simultaneous catch, the ball belongs to Tate, the offensive player. The result of the play was a touchdown." And I was told that instant replay could not review possession on that play, but not so ... "Replay Official Howard Slavin stopped the game for an instant replay review. The aspects of the play that were reviewable included if the ball hit the ground and who had possession of the ball. In the end zone, a ruling of a simultaneous catch is reviewable. That is not the case in the field of play, only in the end zone. Referee Wayne Elliott determined that no indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the call on the field, and as a result, the on-field ruling of touchdown stood. The NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video today and supports the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling following the instant replay review." So they had an additional opportunity to get it right and failed. Just an amazing turn of events requiring the NFL PR machine to gear up. The release is here ... http://nflcommunications.com/2012/09...seahawks-game/ FAX |

I'm going to take a slightly different tack ...
First off, in real time and live, that could well have looked like simultaneous possession. I mean, you've got players reaching up, the ball arrives, and "bing, bang, boom", everybody's on the ground. Second off, the officials didn't appear to be in the ideal position to make the call and ran in to observe the play as though it were a scrum. No call was made until they examined the players on the ground. Given that, it could be that simultaneous possession was the right call. I mean, when you restrict the decision-making to the information the refs had at the time. However, that does not excuse the fact that the PI was not called ... a blatant PI, by the way. And it doesn't explain how the two officials called the play completely differently. Finally, instant replay had an opportunity to correct the call but chose to defer. That is the biggest screw up in this entire deal. They had plenty of angles. Maybe they really did chicken out. FAX |
