Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

*EDIT* I found the podcasts where they talk about this. It starts at about 15:10.

http://www.610sports.com/topic/play_...udioId=6054578

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

Quote:
He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.
Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

I didn't see the Gabbert conversation. I ASSUMED that we were still talking about Quinn.

Jesus Christ, why isn't everyone jumping for F-ing joy. If this report is correct, it means Cassel is finally being held accountable for his shitty ass play. Anyone who was impressed by his performance last week is insane, he sucked dick as always, there is a reason we needed 5-6 field goals and his name is Matt Cassel, sure he made a couple decent throws late in the game for the first time in forever, but overall it was still the same shit-his-pants on 3rd down Cassel we all know and hate.

I don't give a shit if Quinn is better or worse, Cassel has ruined the NFL for me, I used to be able to enjoy watching other teams, now all I can think is "Cassel could never make that throw, Cassel would have missed that receiver, Cassel wouldn't have seen that guy open"

This is a signal that we will not have to suffer through more seasons with Captain lock-on-and-shit-his-pants.

My nomination for POST OF THE YEAR!

I think the same way. I was watching Flacco last night and I was saying the same thing. Then, a funny thing happened as I watched Wheeden, I found myself saying "That looks like Cassel" - especially on the last play of the game when Wheeden's pass, from the 20 yard line, sailed out of the end zone...

I don't get this whole "Quinn is an INT machine" sentiment. The guy has two games in his career where he has thrown multiple picks. He has more TD's than INT's for his career. Granted, his career hasn't been more than 10 starts or so, but how do we really know what he is until he plays more?

I'm pretty sure he's not much of an upgrade, but you never know...

I want us to draft our own high 1st round QB.
BUT it has PLAYED out. In the end - Pioli STICKS with Cassel and we DON'T draft a franchise QB until Cassel is gone.

Anytime you have to hold your breath and pray something bad doesn't happen when your QB drops back to pass....then he needs to be replaced.
