Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

*EDIT* I found the podcasts where they talk about this. It starts at about 15:10.

http://www.610sports.com/topic/play_...udioId=6054578

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

Quote:
He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.
Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

Say we go into the bye 1-5. RAC announces during the bye that they are making the switch to Quinn. With Quinn, the Chiefs end the season at 10-6. Quinn throws for 3000 yards, 24 TDs and 6 INTs.

Quinn is only 27. Would you be upset if they signed Quinn to a 3-4 deal?
That would be some sort of miracle. Im not sure how I would react to your scenario.

I could live with it if he drafts a QB.

First of all, that's really unlikely.

Second of all, I would jump for joy and celebrate the signing. I would rejoice that after all the time, we've found Len Dawson 2.0 and can get on with winning some championships.

BUT...probably ain't gonna happen. There is more chance of that happening than Matt Cassel suddenly becoming a + player, though, so I'm for giving it a shot.

One season wonders are not certain long term solutions.

You can sign him to a 2 year deal to keep him in KC, draft a first round QB, and let them compete.

10 games......that averages out to:

300 yards a game.
2.4 TDs per game
.6 INTs per game.

What about if he averaged 250 yards a game and had more INTs? Say around 12-13 INTs. Would that be worth a contract? Keep in mind....you could (not saying he would) still draft a QB because Quinn would have shown that he can be a viable backup QB.

Wouldn't be a lot different from the Flynn/Wilson situation. It's a good problem to have.

So taking a 1-5 team and winning 9 out of your last 10 games isn't proving ANYTHING?

Anything short of giving birth to a fully developed Geno Smith will classify as not enough from Quinn in my eyes.

He can literally do nothing to make me want to give him the job full time.

we're really discussing resigning Brady Quinn versus being in position to draft Geno Smith...

this is happening

No....we're not. It's hypothetical.

If you ask me who I'd rather have between Quinn and Smith.....I'll take Smith 10 times out of 10.
