Ummm...just watched the clip in that article. After the initial cheer for the first down, the cheering decreases significantly. Once everyone realizes Cassel is hurt, it's pretty quiet...relatively anyway with 70,000 people packed in a stadium. People hear what they want to hear, I guess.

Eh, I don't attribute so much to "Dumb", just unaware. And seriously, it IT confusing to anyone that's never been to Kansas City as to why the Chiefs don't play in Kansas. I mean, it says it right there in the name: Kansas City Chiefs.

If the Rams played in St. Louis, Illinois, it would be just as confusing to people.

The proliferation of popular video games like the Madden franchise has only served to increase the disconnect that some fans have in terms of realizing that these professional football players are, in fact, human beings themselves. Because everything else in video games like Call of Duty and Grant Theft Auto is make believe and fictitious I think sometimes there are fans that almost forget that the players are real and not just characters in some video game they play.

Then there's fantasy football. Like video games, fantasy football has been a huge boon for the business of the NFL and, in turn, NFL players. Like video games, however, fantasy football has contributed to the propensity of fans who think of and thus treat NFL players like commodities. If you draft and trade and drop players on your fantasy team enough you really do begin to think of them in that way. Ultimately they just become numbers whether that is the jersey they wear or the statistics they generate. The human element is gone.
