And the majority of plays in that winning drive came against a 3 man rush, prevent zone.

One good read does not a good QB make.

Trent Dilfer was outstanding in the 2000 SB against the Giants, and came up with some huge plays in the playoffs in that SB run.

Total body of work tells us he was a mediocre game manager.

That is AJ McCarron's body of work.

Just because McCarron is ASKED to be a game manager does not mean that is all he is capable of.

You want to use college body of work as what defines a player's NFL ceiling? Are you sure you want to go down that road? That runs counter to everything we understand about scouting and the concept of projecting a college player to the next level.

It's OK to admit that you haven't watched many Alabama games lately, milkman.

I haven't watched many games this year.

Maybe he has done things this year that changes my opinion.

But based on games I watched last year, and last night's game, I am not sold that he is anything more than I've portrayed him.

If that's all you've seen then you'd have no choice but to portray him that way. I was assailing him last season for his poor play. Safe game managing, inaccurate when called upon to make a play.

I see every game he plays. I see every home game he plays in person (and as we all know being able to see the whole field is very useful in assessing a QB's performance). I'm telling you that a switch was turned on with him in last year's regular-season finale against Auburn. Since then he has been a guy who looks and plays like an NFL-caliber QB. Last night was his first poor game since LAST YEAR's LSU game, or if you want to be strict, since 11/12/11 at Mississippi State.

I may be cautiously and even skeptically optimistic about Smith and Barkley, but I want NO part of a Nick Saban QB... That would seem like another moronic Stanzi pick... Great college QB, who knows maybe they'll develop in five years, NO THANKS

Maybe he is a game manager but he did something Geno and most of the others have not. Also, did you watch Tannehill on the final drive of that Indy game yesterday? He was terrible on that drive. The difference in that game yesterday was that Luck was "clutch" and Tannehill was not. This is exactly why I prayed we wouldn't draft Tannehill. He never stepped up in college in those big games and big moments. Does that sound familiar? So many NFL games come down to the end. Furthermore, how do you know you aren't going to spend a first round pick on a game manager? You say you look for pocket awareness and accuracy but, don't the majority of first round quarterbacks have those qualities? There is only a 30% chance a first round QB will be successful. We need someone with more than those two characteristics because it's about alot more than that.

I was never trying to say that we should take McCarron in the first. I'm just saying what he did is what I am looking for the most in quarterbacks. Guys like Russell Wilson, Joe Montana, and Tom Brady did the same thing in college. It is what matters the most. It's about making the play when it has to be made. It's about taking the team on your shoulders.

If your QB can't do this, you aren't going far in the NFL. If we take a first round QB, he better be able to do this imo.
