Lo'fing L at you Vermieil haters. They made no bones about what they were about. They said "We're gonna make a 3 year run at this." They had a shot in 2003. That was their big year. Everyone knew it. If you didn't, your fault.
I don't see how anyone can criticize Vermeil in the draft. They sold out for free agency. That was their draft. They had no intention of drafting well. This regime, it's garbage. It's horrendous. I've never seen a regime draft as poorly as Vermeil and acquire leftovers Iike Steadman. Pioli should go down in the annals of football history as one of the worst GMs in history. Easily the worst Chiefs GM.

Priest, Kennison, Wiegmann and even acquiring T Green in a trade was a solid move. As much as DVs draft were poor, at least he drafted Jared Allen and DJ. I give him some props for that. |

Priest Holmes was dumped by a Super Bowl team after two ACL surgeries. Kennison was dumped MID SEASON. Weigmann was a backup center. Also, Vermeil expected Richardson to be the starter with Priest as a 3rd down back. JFC, are you people THIS out of the loop? Furthermore, you ****ing DUMBASS, they missed on how many defensive free agents? A dozen? How about guys like Snoop Minnis? Bigfoot? etc. and so on. Shut the **** up. |

But, you don't consider Trent Green a solid move? C'mon. The guy gave the Chiefs 5 productive seasons, made two probowls, was unquestionably one of the better leaders on the ball club. In fact, I think Trent Green could be ranked up there as one of the better Chiefs QBs in history.I'm speaking directly from a longevity and productivity standpoint. I understand that giving up a first round pick is a lot for a 31 year old QB at the time, but when that first round pick turns out to be Damione Lewis, and your QB produces consistently for 5 seasons, makes probowls, that is win and without a doubt a very solid move by the Chiefs. |

The goal for a first round pick should be foundational pieces that last a decade or more. 5 year stop gaps are a poor use of that value.

I totally agree that the better usage of that pick would have been taking Brees, in hindsight, but spending a late first round pick for 5 years of elite QB play is a deal Id do every time. |

He was piss poor in 2001 and much better from 2002-2004. By 2006, he was shot. Drew Brees would have been the better selection, by far. |

That first year was a learning process, so Green was only "elite" (not what I'd call it, but that would only be arguing definitions) for 4 years. That's a short window. I would not spend a first round pick on a guy that gives me that short a window.
