Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide
No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Such a shitty thing to have to wake up to. Being a huge Chiefs fan is such a big part of who I am. It's why I drive 6 and a half hours once a year to watch a game every year. I love coming back to arrowhead and being around other Chiefs fans. As shitty as this season has been this just puts such a dark cloud over Arrowhead.

Maybe in a normal situation where they enjoyed going to work, were proud to be playing for their team, and felt good playing in front of their fans. Even if they were having a losing season.

I doubt many of them relish the thought of going to a place where they are subjected to ridicule, embarrassment, and harassment. Arrowhead Stadium has to be one of the LEAST SUPPORTIVE places on the planet right now.

Prayers for the family, especially the child. Nobody knows what the context of the situation, or this man's life, so it's not right to be so quick to pass judgement. The guy clearly had some demons, but he made a very rash decision on impulse that will continue to effect the lives of many.

Report: Kansas City Chiefs LB Jovan Belcher Killed His Girlfriend, Drove To The Chiefs Practice Facility, And Killed Himself [Updating]

[See Updates Below] The full report, with everything we know at the moment, from KCTV in Kansas City:
Police are investigating two deadly shootings Saturday morning that they said are related.

The shootings involve a Chiefs player and his girlfriend.
The first shooting was reported about 8 a.m. at a home near 54th Street and Chrysler Avenue. The second shooting was reported a short time later at a Chiefs practice facility located on the Arrowhead facility.

Officials said the Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend and then drove to the practice facility where he shot and killed himself.

It's unknown if people were at Arrowhead or any of its surrounding facilities at the time.
Twitter rumors are flying about who the player is—observers of varying levels of access seem to have settled on a single candidate—but we'll wait to confirm, and will update this post as more information becomes available.

Update, 11:04 a.m.: It looks like the original guesses were correct: CBS's Jason La Canfora is reporting the player in question was Jovan Belcher.

Belcher was a four-year veteran, and had started 44 of the team's 59 games during that span. His player bio is here.
Update, 11:20 a.m.: Belcher may have committed suicide in front of Romeo Crennel and Scott Pioli:

Update, 11:47 a.m.: Recent pictures of Belcher, his girlfriend and their child, uploaded to this Facebook page. The caption reads, "Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours."





There is also a Walmart baby registry for Kasandra Perkins & Jovan Belcher, set for 9/11/2012, here. The police have yet to name the first victim.

12:32: Espn just reported that is was Belcher's mother that was at the place where the girlfriend was shot.
