Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide
No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

People are talking about head trauma but I guess it's a chicken/egg conversation. Domestic Violence seems to be a pretty big issue in the NFL too.

I don't think so, dude. He was a small school player at defensive end. He started in the NFL for a mere 3 seasons. That's nothing like Mike Webster, Junior Seau, Dave Duerson and so on that played 15 years and killed themselves later in life due to their pain and struggles.

Perhaps you may be right, but there was evidence said by others that was on the board that he does have a history of acting out as well. So, I'm not sure if it's bipolar or depression or something.

By all accounts, he's been a very nice guy, but when women are involved, he loses his mind.

There's accounts on DeadSpin from EMT's from Maine that had to re-attach his thumb when he shattered it because of a fight with a girlfriend where he put his hand through a window.

That's probably for the better. Let them play tomorrow so they can move on to concerning themselves with the funeral and all that stuff. If they rescheduled it to mid-week or something, that would just make it harder for them to get to their responsibilities in life.

I would assume the guy was wired wrong, for sure. But if these rumors of his history with women are true, it's anger and violence against women.

If it was just head trauma, why didn't he kill the baby, the mother of his girlfriend or even people at Arrowhead?

That's the thing - I'd have named just about everyone on the team before Belcher when trying to guess who might have done something like this.

Then again, there appears to be some smoke to the 'hothead' fire. So it shows just how little we know about these guys.

He wasn't a great player, but he was one of my favorite. He was a guy that maxed his talent and busted his ass to make it as a starter in this league. He was right there on the cusp of his first big-money deal and just seemed like an overall good guy.

Now he's just a murderer. And yes, that does override everything else he's ever done. He's a killer and that's it.

I absolutely hate it.
