Chiefs' Player Jevon Belcher involved in murder-suicide, shoots self at Arrowhead

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

I find it very difficult to believe that he was abusing drugs and alcohol to the degree stated in that article, yet was able to hide it from the Chiefs players, front office, coaching staff and play on Sundays.

I'm not stating that the source was wrong, it just seems like if someone was that jacked up all the time, someone would have taken note.

More details are emerging regarding the murder the preceded the suicide of Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher.

According to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post, Kansas City policy are telling local media members that Belcher shot Kasandra Perkins nine times.

The shooting occurred in the presence of Belcher’s mother, who could be providing to the authorities details regarding the events that precipitated the shooting in the coming days.

I don't. Not if they were prescription drugs or if he was known to like to 'party.' He's 25 for God's sake. Most of us were able to drink a ton, sleep little, and then show up for work like nothing happened the night before.

Nine times? You don't shoot someone nine times because they stayed out late for a concert. He had some serious animosity towards her for whatever reason.
