Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick

I hate how the ESPN morons say said player is not the best on the board so don't take him. Well, we're drafting for need. We need a QB. By April 25th the Chiefs new GM and HC will decide who that is and draft him. Who cares if he's not the top overall player, he (whether that's Smith or Wilson) is the top overall QB and that's what we need. It's not a "reach" if you need that position, IMO.

I don't think it's about conference loyalty, I think it's about the familiarity that following certain teams brings with the players you face yearly.

I'd be curious to see which QB a Titans (or some other professional team with a largely SEC fanbase) board is embracing.

Well WV just joined the Big 12 this year so I really doubt that would get much love on here for that.

I don't think I could say which is better, but I'm much more familiar with Wilson's body for work, just as I imagine that most Big 12/Midwest fans are much more familiar with Smith's. I think that's hard to separate from the discussion. That being said, I know there are people on here whose love/knowledge of college football transcends conference and aren't as affected by such biases.

Geno was in the Big East prior to this year so I imagine the Big 12 angle has very little to do with it.

Me, I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan and watch a lot more Big 10 than anything else. That being said, I watch A LOT of college football, even Sun Belt and MAC games and such.

I've seen Geno and Wilson play a similar amount of times and I like Geno a little bit better.

As for why I think he's superior - he has excelled in 2 completely different offensive systems under 2 different coaches.

the problem I have here with his performance is basic evaluation. There is no way on the face of the earth that Geo Smith treated this as a vacation/exhibition. He knows as well as everyone else that this game and his play will be scrutinized in detail. Thats a lot of pressure. He didn't handle it well. That goes on his resume. It's just a part of his resume but it is now a permanent part of his resume.

I'm not going to rip Wilson to defend Geno. I like Tyler Wilson. I just don't think this represents the true Geno more than his previous play. The reason players can be hard to project isn't just about changing scheme and the raised skill level. It's also about the fact players are likely to take an up and down line towards their peak, whatever that may be. Most are not going to take a straight line ascending up. Luck did that, and because of that a lot of people think any player without the straight line means they aren't worth taking early.

The difficulty is deciding which players will end up high on the scale once their line levels off. I don't think using Geno's "outbursts" are a smart way of going. I don't think Rivers is a parallel player emotionally. Too much speculating to sit here and talk about Geno's attitude, especially with some of the interviews he has done.

I have a feeling Wilson is going to come out of the pro days as the higher floor, Geno the higher ceiling. If we aren't there already.

I can guarantee you he didn't treat it as a vacation - he's never beaten Cuse and said last week that he was on a PERSONAL mission to beat them.

At the end of the day, he's just one guy and no he didn't do himself any favors. The refs, weather, and his own coaching staff didn't either.

This isn't about outbursts.

Geno Smith got pissed off. He got leg whipped and it wasn't called.

He didn't come to the sideline and dress down his linemen or a WR like Rivers does.

As for today's game, if you're being honest you have to say it was a subpar game. Having said that, I don't know what QB in this draft class who would have excelled. That was one epic blizzard. The type of game where the team with the better running game & defense was going to win... And it did.

And to completely counter my earlier theory, the people on Hogville seem to think that Wilson is going to go in the 3rd round and is a horrible prospect. But they're kind of shit heads like that, especially after this last season.

I don't think anyone would have believed that Mallett would fall as far as he did, either. Truth is that these guys will rise and fall in interviews and that's where Geno SHOULD excel. Wilson is a first round talent, but he also has some concerns that teams will address regarding his leadership.

Mallet had some serious question marks. See also: my last post, aka "getting busted for drugs"

In other words, QBs generally only free fall like that when they have off the field problems of some kind or another.

Wilson threw his team under the bus after the game he missed. I guarantee you teams will dig deep into that in interviews and try to see if it was isolated or a character flaw. How that shakes out can help his stock rise to top five or drop him to the second round because some teams might take him off their board completely.
