Schefter: Chiefs leaning towards firing Pioli

Schefter: Chiefs mulling big change
December, 30, 2012
DEC 30 1:50PM ET
By Bill Williamson | ESPN.com

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that he expects the Kansas City Chiefs to fire coach Romeo Crennel.

As for general manager Scott Pioli, Schefter reports the Chiefs -- mired in a miserable 2-13 season -- are leaning toward firing Pioli.

If I had to guess, I’d say both Crennel and Pioli are going to be fired. They are a package deal. I think if the Hunt family had its druthers, it would give both men another chance. But the fan fury is so great in Kansas City, I think the Hunts will be compelled to make a move.

I don’t think firing one of the two and keeping the other will work.

Pioli has hired two coaches -- Todd Haley and Crennel -- since joining the Chiefs in 2009. I don’t necessarily think he will get a chance to hire a third. If that is what is the case, I think the Chiefs will likely make a clean sweep and hire a new general manager (Bill Polian, anyone?) first and then a head coach.

We shall soon see. I don’t think the Hunts will wait long before making a decision.

Because revenue sharing is all the money.

I'm sorry, but this is reading a lot like the draft thread when McBust and the other midget were selected.

**** this shit!

Well, I'm OK with the selections if...

They're good players!

If Scott Pioli takes Geno Smith, then what?

That's just it. How do you trust a guy who's failed to find a QB and a head coach ... to go out and find a QB and head coach?

All Clark can say is "Based on his track record in New England, I think he deserves a third chance." A THIRD CHANCE.

I can't see a great HC and a great draft in the future for a Pioli run team.

It's why I want them absolutely grilled in the post season PC. It won't happen to the extent we'd like, but they have to be pressed on why Pioli deserves another shot.

Would it really matter? If Scott is back, we have a owner problem and will never win then. No that would be it for me then.

As a couple of others have stated, it isn't something we can just turn off with the flip of a switch. A couple of stellar choices would keep me at least tuned in. Not happy but, tuned in to see what becomes of it.

That's great. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be extremely interested and thunderstruck by the organization actually drafting a QB.

However, what evidence do we have that Pioli would make any other moves that would aid Smith in his development? But we have loads of evidence to suggest that Pioli would reaffirm a twisted, counter-productive environment at Arrowhead which makes it tough for anyone to succeed.

makes a difference for some, not for others.

top goal: start playing well
2nd goal: get a QB that people can believe in
3rd goal: get a coach that people can believe in

the more of these that get done the better since all 3 are 'tangled' together but still ... start winning and the Chiefs' bandwagon will fill back up regardless of who the GM is
