My question is, though, was Bradford really a better prospect coming out than Geno Smith is right now?

I wouldn't think so. I would say Bradford would be about neck-and-neck with Barkley.

Of course, I think a lot of the perception with this year's QBs has to do with wins and losses. So maybe Bradford still goes first, although he was injured the whole season.

In any case, I don't think this QB class is any weaker than in any other "normal" draft class. Nobody with Andrew Luck's pedigree should not mean nobody of any value at all. It's a double-standard. Other positions get artificially elevated, both OT and DT this year in my opinion, but quarterback value is almost always lowered. Maybe it's a holdover from the old CBA, when you really could hurt your franchise for a decade if you busted on a QB with a $60-million contract. But the idea of any other position being "safer" than QB is outmoded now, and people need to stop thinking that way.

(The league already has, with so many QBs going earlier in the last few drafts than they were projected by "experts")

If Bradford was in this years class, would you take him 1 overall? Just knowing what we knew when he was a prospect?

I wasn't all that high on Bradford when he came out, and would not take him ahead of Smith or Wilson, and probably not ahead of Barkley.

I wouldn't touch Wilson due to his concussion history. It's been reported that he suffered two in college, so I think it's fair to assume that he's suffered from even more.

With the league cracking down on the availability of players due to concussions, there's no way I'd touch him with a first round pick.

it' only a hypothetical...but if bradford is on WVU, with a sieve OL and the worst D in college, I don't think he performs like Smith

Agree with that.

I also think for both Wilson and Smith, if you put them on USC, they just freaking light it up. Better line talent than either of them had (notable due to just how bad USC's line was) and by far better skill position talent than Wilson had this season (not Smith, obviously).

I still say if Smith's a 9-win QB he's on the stage for the Heisman ceremony, with the exact same stats he posted as a 7-win QB. That's how much I think those two one-point losses (which he'd put the team ahead late, as you know...) hurts how he's perceived. And there's likely no debate at all about his status on early draft boards.

so i pretty much agree with everything you ever type

if WVU beats OU, which they should have, Smith has the brand name upset just like RG3 and resets the whole narrative about his season...instead, we end up with RunKC doing 'research' on youtube...

agree about Wilson and Smith at USC as well...I am torn on Barkley...have loved him since his frosh performance at Ohio St., loved him last year, then this year he just makes some really bad throws

i'd still take him, though, if that is what it comes down to

Barkley looks like a guy with a higher ceiling than Alex Smith, but that just puts him at the top of the list of game manager's with Sam Bradford.

i'm all about thresholds....does a guy pass 'some' level of talent at which you could hypothetically build a championship team around him?

for some, it's 'easy': Brady, Manning, Rothleswhatever, Rodgers, presumably Luck

for some it requires more work: Eli, Brees

for some it requires a lot, but they can get there: Flacco, Ryan (broke the seal)

then there is Bradford, Stafford...major ?'s but still with the realm of imagination

but I'd draft ANY of them (in retrospect, obviously)...i'm not concerned with how much work it will take, only that is possible (and not in a Dilfer way)

if you sit around waiting for Luck, you'll be sitting around forever (Chiefs!)...that attitude drives me crazy...you can't win (or even get lucky) if you don't try

and so I would without hesitation draft wilson/smith/barkley...

I'd draft Barkley too.

Just commenting on what I believe his ceiling to be.

I thought that Bradford was a complete joke at #1 overall. He spent his college career in the spread and was injured for a year. I thought he'd be an awful NFL QB.
