If we pass on him, how far will Geno fall?

Let's look at this from another angle. Say we take *insert player here* instead of Geno Smith. Who grabs him instead of us? I say the Raiders won't be able to not take him, and we get to pay for it for about a decade.

This is a quarterback league. There is no position on the field more important to a team. I still say Geno is the pick based on that fact alone, but if I'm wrong, there is going to be a team picking not that far behind us that will thanks us greatly and swipe him up. Opinions?

Why did they re up Vick in that case? Guess they're worried Geno won't fall to them?

They have Vick, Foles, and Dixon now. I could have seen them getting rid of Foles if they wanted Geno, but the Dixon signing makes that seem like an unlikely scenario.

Yeah. And that maybe Geno isn't ready to step in immediately.

And let's face it, Vick has maybe a 3-yr shelf-life left at this point. Even if everything goes right for him and he puts it all back together, he isn't a young man anymore. He's on his way out.

But I'd imagine that Kelly sees Vick as the absolute apha-version of the dual-threat QB he likes and just could not pass on the chance to give him a test drive in this offense. Really, can you blame him? It's possible that there's never been a better QB to run his system on any level.

But he's injury prone and he's not going to be around much longer. The Eagles, with Smith, would have a more mobile passer with skills that can play to the same type of offense that Kelly would run under Vick. Wheras with Foles, if Vick goes down, the whole offense would have to be scrapped (which is why I really think that Kelly brought in Dixon; his 'gameday' #2 to step in in case Vick goes down for a quarter or two).

And I could obviously be wrong. I just think people are sleeping on the Eagles a bit here and forgetting just how much Chip Kelly loved Geno coming out of HS.

Maybe they go Rodgers with Geno and sit him for that long I guess. I think his offense in Philly will be different than it was in Eugene too.

I really don't see how Foles fits in it though.

You don't sign two QBs to new contracts with another QB you just drafted, to take a QB in the first round.

Why? Dixon's not ever going to be a legitimate starter. He's an emergency fill-in at best.

If you're Kelly, you should want every QB on your roster to be relatively mobile and capable of presenting a run/pass risk. So you go with Vick as your starter and Dixon as your 'gameday' #2 until you think that Geno would be capable of standing in for a series or quarter at the drop of a hat.

As soon as you believe Geno is ready to be a heartbeat away from the field, you put Dixon as your emergency inactive and when Vick inevitably suffers a longer term injury, you now have Geno and Dixon as guys that can run the same offense.

Geno's actually a pretty damn good fit for the Eagles.

Dennis Dixon could be cut tomorrow without batting an eye. He is wholly irrelevant to the discussion of the Eagles 1st round pick. He's only slightly more relevant than Trent Edwards.

And the Eagles gave Vick a 1-yr deal that's below market for a starting NFL QB. It's not like they committed multiple years or tens of millions to him. Moreover, Nick Foles is A) cheap, B) wasn't exactly a high-value draft pick and C) could easily be traded for a draft pick of similar value.

The Eagles commitments to any QB on their roster are being wildly overstated.

There is 0 evidence that Geno would be good in a Chip Kelly offense. You are a bit biased due to the overrating of Geno on this site. I can definitely see the Eagles going into training camp letting Dixon/Foles/Vick fight out for the job.

Ah, so we're back to the whole "ignoring everything we've seen from a physical skills standpoint" on Geno Smith, eh? Whatever.

Some guy is actually claiming that Dennis !@#$ing Dixon is going to keep a team from taking a 1st round QB if they like him and I'm supposed to put a lot of weight on his opinion?

Good ol' Jags fans. It's fortunate for you guys that you're relatively new to the game, otherwise your stupidity would be really embarrassing.

Please explain to me, when you witnessed anything from Geno that makes it seem like he would be good in Chip Kelly's offense?

Or do you just think all black QB's fit good?

Did you see how Smith was able to use his legs to keep plays alive? How about the play against Texas where the middle of the line simply collapsed and Smith immediately saw a hole, broke up the middle and picked up the first?

Smith's accuracy on intermediate routes will be perfect in a Kelly system because those are exactly the zones that become vulnerable when a QB rolls out. LBs have to respect a mobile QB at that point and can't camp in the zones. This creates throwing lanes and soft spots in the zone for an accurate intermediate passer like Smith to pick apart.

Now by all means - explain to me why Smith wouldn't be an elite fit for Chip Kelly's system.

And when you're done, you should probably go explain that to Chip as well, afterall, Chip's the guy that pursued him more aggressively than any QB he ever recruited, including your hero Dennis Dixon.

(P.S. The above was far more explanation than an idiot response such as your pathetic attempt at playing the race card deserved; you ****ing suck at this).

If you think Geno is a "mobile qb" then you are dumb as ****. Moving in the pocket != Mobile QB. Thinking you only thought so because he was black was me giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were just ignorant and not a complete reerun.

The only reason I could argue as to Geno not being an *elite* prospect for Kelly would be his lack of speed.

However, he's a more than solid prospect and his accuracy is something that probably helps Kelly's ofense more than his lack of speed hinders it IMO.

I give the Eagles a .0001% chance of taking a QB in the first round. Regardless of who is available.

You realize that a 4.8 40 is damn fast for a QB right?

RGIII is not a mobile QB, he's a goddamn freak of nature. One can be mobile without being a track star.

Geno Smith is essentially Steve Young in terms of how he uses his legs...but you're right, Steve Young wasn't a mobile quarterback. He's also very similar to Aaron Rodgers and yes, Rodgers is absolutely a mobile quarterback.

You have a grade-schoolers understanding of this game, so I'm not real sure why I'm trying to give you any nuanced perspective. It's clearly flying right the !@#$ over your head.
