Kansas City Chiefs Are An Early Pick To Make A Huge Turnaround In 2013
http://sportschatplace.com/football/...h/14/nfl-news/
[U][U][U]If you are looking for a team to make a quick turnaround in 2013, look no further than the Kansas City Chiefs. The disaster that was the Kansas City Chiefs 2012 season brought sweeping changes to the franchise in the form of a new Quarterback, General Manager and Head Coach. In a results oriented business like Professional Football, a team that is incapable of scoring points is not going to stay in tact for very long. Andy Reid was wise to choose Kansas City as his landing sport after his brand of leadership had run its course in Philadelphia. The regime of former General Manager Scott ***** did not do a bad job in acquiring overall talent, it merely overestimated Matt Cassel’s talent level and took the bullet for that decision. This team is not devoid of outstanding players and the new management team in Kansas City is rapidly checking off the boxes of the tasks that need to be completed before this team can go back to the playoffs. The first and most important statement that new General Manager John Dorsey made was to go out and find himself a competent Quarterback in Alex Smith. Smith’s detractors will say that his success was due to playing for a team that is stacked with talent and capable of running the ball any time, any where. A further examination of this assertion reveals that it is not as true as you would think. Certainly, the 49ers were one of the best running teams in the NFL with the best Offensive LIne in the league and one of the toughest players in the league in Frank Gore to tote the rock. The receiving corps however, was never going to make anyone forget about the days of Jerry Rice, John Taylor and Brent Jones. During his time in San Francisco, Alex Smith had Vernon Davis and not much more. From a physical standpoint, Alex Smith tends to pale in comparison to Colin Kaepernick just as most of the Quarterbacks in the league do not possess that sort of skill set. Much of the criticism of Smth’s ability as a Quarterback comes from the comparison to Kaepernick which is not fair. Shop Kansas City Chiefs new NFL Nike Jerseys at Fanatics! Alex Smith is poised to bring the same level of ability and production to the table in Kansas City. He will have a 1,500 yard rusher in Jamaal Charles to make the play action passing game more effective and he has a go to stud Wide Receiver in Dwayne Bowe who is a matchup nightmare for most Cornerbacks in the league. On Bowe’s opposite side, the 6’4” 230 lb. Jonathan Baldwin will be a similar nightmare if he can continue to develop and improve from his 20 catch 325 yard performance in 2012. Dexter McCluster provides a nice compliment to those huge receivers in the slot and his 52 catches for 452 yards should improve with a more accurate Quarterback in Smith. Clearly, there will be some changes in the Offensive Line this off season but the Chiefs locked up their most valuable piece when they applied the Franchise Tag to Left Tackle Branden Albert. The Chiefs also have the first pick in this year’s draft and can use it to shore up the line further with another franchise Left Tackle like Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel who can play the Right Tackle position while the team decides whether or not it wants to sign Albert to a long term deal. Eric Winston was released prior to the Free Agent signing period in a move designed to free up more cap space. On the Defensive side of the ball, you cannot accuse Scott ***** of failing to address the interior line positions as he added first round picks like Tyson Jackson and Dontari Poe to Glen Dorsey to give the Chiefs a very expensive if underachieving Defensive front. Jackson in particular had a contract with extremely unfriendly cap terms and was convinced to restructure his deal in such a way that his cap number was reduced by about 10 Mil in 2013. Glen Dorsey was released altogether and former New York Jet Mike DeVito was brought in to fill his slot at a better number. There is some talk that the Chiefs will use the first pick in the draft to add more talent to the Defensive Line in the form of Utah’s Star Lotulelei for Florida’s Sharrif Floyd. Adding one of those two prospects to a lineup of Jackson, Poe and DeVito makes this an extremely formidable unit. Another area of the Defense that John Dorsey has done an outstanding job of addressing through Free Agency is the Cornerback position which was a problem in 2012. In a division with Peyton Manning and his frightening corps of receivers, talent at the Cornerback position is indispensable. By adding former Falcon Dunta Robinson and Dolphin Sean Smith to Brandon Flowers, the Chiefs now have a considerable investment in 3 very good Corners. They also have one very solid Safety in Eric Berry and will have an opportunity to find another in the draft as the position is an area of strength in 2013. In the coming draft, the Chiefs do not have any extra choices but they do have the first or second picks in every round. With these picks, Kansas City will be able to find some value at Safety, Wide Receiver and Offensive Line. Barring catastrophic injuries, there is no way that this will be a 2-14 team in 2013. If Smith plays up to his San Francisco numbers, this is a team that will contend for a playoff spot. The running game is solid, the receivers are big and fast, the Offensive Line is bound to improve and the Defense will benefit from some positional upgrades and an Offense that will have fewer 3 and outs. If you’re looking for an early candidate for Coach of the Year, Andy Reid is one of the best bets around. |

Shaun Hill sucks. And yet he was able to out-perform Alex Smith with the exact same players.
What does that say about Alex Smith?

I would say the team around Alex Smith improved more than he improved.
I mean shit, he threw 18 TD/12 INT two years before Harbaugh.

It says that Shaun Hill was able to grasp Mike Martz offense better than Alex Smith, who at the time, was on his fourth offense in four years.

Figure you can go 2-2 vs OAK/SD at the worst and you're getting rolled by DEN ... so that's 2-4 worst case or 3-3 best case in the division.
Home vs BAL / CIN / IND / ATL / CAR Away vs CLE / PIT / BUF / NOS / TB That's 7, possibly 8 wins... CIN, IND and CAR will present issues.

Crap ... cannot trust the Google result sometimes.
Home - Houston, Indianapolis, Dallas, N.Y. Giants, Cleveland Away - Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington, Buffalo Enh, possibly the same result, but much better chance of getting to 9.
