No they won't. The price will be driven by having multiple teams wanting the pick, none of them give a shit how bad the Chiefs want it. The Rams sure as hell didn't want the #2 pick last year and got a haul because of a bidding war for RG3.

Um no, you don't want the party you're dealing with to know that you are dead set on getting rid of your pick. They will know you are desperate to get rid of it and will offer less compensation. You want them to think you would consider getting rid of it for the right price, but you're not desperate. It's a pretty basic concept that applies with selling anything. There's no RG3 in this draft so that's a pretty poor example, and if teams know you just want out of the spot they will start the bidding lower.

Let's say the Eagles and Bills both are in love with Geno and the Eagless offer this years 1, 2 and a 3rd next year. The Chiefs tell the Bills about the offer and say they will take a 1,2, and 2nd next year from them. Do they come back and tell the Chiefs no, because we don't think you are going to pick Geno therefore we won't make the trade knowing for damn well the Eagles will make a trade and take Geno???? How much sense does that make? They either offer more then the other teams or they don't get him regardless of how much the Chiefs covet the pick. The Chiefs offered a 3rd for him. This probably would have been MORE than enough to get him. Problem is, Buffalo came along and offered a 2nd. Next thing you know, we get raped and give up a 2nd and a future. We lose, bad. Supply and demand. Not demand and I think my shits worth more than it is. Demand sets the market. |

Andy Reid says he'll evaluate 8-10 players for No. 1 pick. Asked why Alex over Geno Smith: "Doesn't mean Geno is out of the water." Smiles. Via Andy Rapport twitter

Welp, congrats on not picking Star Loutelly in the top 10 everyone!
@Gil_Brandt 33s Agent Bruce Tollner didn't want Lotulelei to run cuz of conditioning, but Star said he wanted to run w/ teammates. Ran 2 40s (5.31, 5.36)

Thanks for bringing up the Alex Smith example because even when everyone knew he was gonna be moved or released what did Baalke say publicly? He said the 49ers would not release him and he would be on the roster next year if a trade wasn't worked out. Same way everyone knows the Chiefs want out of the #1 spot they still feign interest publicly. |
