Just how valuable is a QB?

This poll has obvious "ulterior" motives - but play it out.

Would you rather have a Top 5 QB in the current NFL or the greatest left tackle of all time or the greatest pass-rusher of all time?

Poll forthcoming.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Cool.

Tell you what, we'll GM two different teams.

I'll draft all the prospects that have a pretty good chance of panning out.

You can draft all the prospects that have a poor chance of panning out.

We'll see who's better in five years.

Because teams don't go by "value draft" charts.

They don't and they never will.

Teams don't care who's rated where by any media outlet. Not even the one we decide to value most.

Each team has it's own value on every player and it's impossible to know where the true "value" is for any player.

All that matters is how many players you did or didn't add to your team...

Ok, but you only get 1 pick in each round...

Do you really think that GM's and their scouts look at Kiper, McShay and Mayock and give two shits what their rankings are?

Sounds good.

I'm pretty sure every single person on this forum would bet on the odds that my team is far better in 5 years.

Because people use it as some "end all" discussion when talking about where Geno Smith should rank or where Joeckel should rank.

Oh my God.....Kiper said Geno Smith should be ranked anywhere from 25-32. If Dorsey drafts him...he's a reach. Or maybe Dorsey feels completely different about Geno Smith and deems him worthy of the #1 pick.

**** the so called "Draft Experts" and their rankings. They don't mean shit other than they watch a shit ton of tape and they think they know what they're talking about.

I didn't say "Kiper said Geno Smith should be ranked ...", I said that Kiper reported that the GMs he's talked to all said that Geno Smith was somewhere between 20 and 32 on their boards. That's the GMs talking, not Kiper. IIRC, Kiper thinks even less of Geno than that.

I also pointed out that this isn't an isolated report. It's a snowflake in a blizzard of these reports.
