****Official Draft Sheldon Richardson Thread****

I want Geno. If we aren't going to draft Geno, then I want the best available pass rushing interior player. Now, you might go "God ****ing dammit Sorter, you've gone full true fan on us wanting a DL!". Normally, I'd agree. However, the 3 tech is an absolutely vital position in today's NFL. Teams are being forced to run "sub" (which in the future, will become base) fronts due to the propensity to throw the ball and align in 3/4 wr sets. Additionally, the quality of TEs is encouraging more throws out of what looks like base personnel (2 TEs, etc). Having an interior rusher who consistently pushes the pocket on sub and more importantly base fronts is crucial. Personally, I'd rather have an interior rusher who struggles against the run but is explosive and active with his hand then most players. Interior players who can rush the passer are a very limited commodity. Quick, name them! Watt, Atkins, Tuck, Cox, Campbell, Jones, Suh. There are a few others you can throw in, ala Raji, but the number of effective interior pass rushers is significantly lower than the amount of OLBs/DEs.

We currently have absolutely nobody who can play the 3 tech effectively. I had very high hopes for Allen Bailey coming into last year, thinking that he'd be able to win 1-1s with RGs in subs and build on his production from his rookie year. He completely underwhelmed.

Out of the available prospects, Richardson is the only one I've seen that is consistently explosive, uses his hands, gets a great "pop", has pass rushing moves, and is athletic enough to align in the 0/1 (although he isn't a NT), 2/3/4/5/7 tech and provide a pass rush. There are some character concerns and his interviews don't help him in that regard. He also struggles against the run and has a propensity to play high (which he gets by with due to his hand fighting skills). The last part is fairly common for most rookies playing DL.

Again, I want Geno. However, having an interior player who gets upfield is a commodity every team wants but few truly have.

Here are a few videos.
