Online Poker is back, Legal & Running in Nevada
Recently you may have heard bills that went through legalizing online poker in Nevada and New Jersey. The first LEGAL online poker site is now up and running for Nevada residents AND VISITORS. It is called www.ultimatepoker.com
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...aming/2123275/ Apparently you don't even need to be a resident of Nevada, just need to confirm you are there. Based on their reps on Two Plus Two Poker Forums, they indicate they only triangulate your cell phone to verify it is in Nevada.. Ultimate Poker is a subsidiary of Station Casinos LLC of Las Vegas, which operates 16 locals-oriented casinos in Nevada. You can go into any of those casinos to cash out or deposit, as well as deposit online. Cash in hand, right away, no waiting. I've heard the software is rough, and today is the first day of their beta testing but the success of this thing will be a huge deciding factor on if other states follow suit. I am hoping for good things |

I hope so.
I have 2 young kids so its impossible for me to go play anymore. I used to really enjoy playing tourneys online. It only makes sense if you can play where you live you should be able to play online as well. It's only more $ for the casinos. |

They turn on the camera and the mic just to verify it's you....so if you're playing poker on the can be prepared for the world to know!

Yeah, that is what it sounds like. I'm surprised they aren't vehemently tracking your IP address and making sure ppl aren't on VPN. Maybe they want to act like they care that only Nevada residents play, sounds kind of like a loophole to get more business to me. I'm sure there will be a guy that will step forward to help ppl out with a fee. Have like 2,000 cell phones in his house and make sure they are all charged up and triangulating.

I think it is going to come down to how successful they are in Nevada, and New Jersey if they start a site up soon. And to be really successful they need to pool players into the same client regardless of state. If there was a solely Kansas state approved online poker site the traffic really wouldn't even be worthwhile I don't think. I know attempts at legalization in France haven't been very successful due to the strict regulations and amazingly high rake structure, but from what I have read today that doesn't seem to be the case w/ Ultimate Poker, which is very exciting.

I do not trust online poker. When I use to play online, I use to see, straight flushes, royal flushes, and quads as if they were as common as 2 pair. That's not how it is in the real world. Plus, I knew people who worked in teams to take people out.
I know I'm lucky enough to live in a city where I can play anywhere anytime. I know online poker is cool for those without that luxury, but I hate playing online players. More times tan not, they chase the hell out of hands cuz they expect the hands to play like they do online. They expect all the high hands, and you can't get them off a hand to save your life. Now, sometimes thats a good thing, but not always...

As far as ppl working in teams, it's much less of a problem than most ppl think, especially with a game like Hold 'Em. It is more of a concern with Omaha, but all online poker rooms have security departments who monitor this type of thing, and poker regs monitor this thing themselves. There is a huge community of regulars that once they suspect this sort of thing (and it's easy to spot) will nip it in the bud right away. I have played over 1 million online poker hands. You can go through my hand history and see the distribution of starting hole cards and made hands and see that mathematically you are reaching the same hands just as frequently as the deck allows. All of this aside, this is legal and regulated, and there is no incentive to rig the games. I hear the more rake thing all the time, but there would be such a minimal incentive to do so it would not be worth it for a company to put their trust and reputation on the line. As far as the underlined part your post I strongly disagree with that. It depends all depends on equity and a given players hand ranges. When I play a player with a tight range, generally I will be calling them way more often to try to hit a big hand because they will pay me off. But that is what players do live and online, but the online game is FAR tighter than live and you have WAY less fold equity in most live games (this is a good thing for Live games). You will have 5 and 6 way pots ALL the time Live, but I go through thousands and thousands of hands online before I ever see a 5 or 6 way pot.

I realize online poker may not come to Kansas any time soon. I am just being optimistic.
I miss the days of getting up and playing a SNG with just boxers on and a mountain dew in hand. Plus, there's no good games near where I am located. So online poker would be crazy convenient. |

As far as raise amount, I don't want to go into poker theory in great detail but I don't know what would be considered to be a correct raise. IMO (which is probably flawed) raise sizes certainly shouldn't be static, they should be based on your image, stack depth, player ranges, position, and board texture. It is true that standard opening raise sizes in live play are generally larger than live, but that is due to people understanding there is a lack of fold equity in these good games and the fact that they play deeper (most live games let you buy in at 200 big blinds and players routinely acquire larger stacks due to high VPIP and more players seeing flops) Also, "online players" are many times despised at live games quite frankly because many are doucehbags and think they are better than they are. But, most of them are just younger kids that have played only a very low amount of hands online, read a poker message board once or twice, and beat off to Durr and Phil Galfond but haven't put in the time to be any good. Most of the time, the online players problem is they just don't realize people do not fold and over estimate fold equity.

I use to play poker a lot. Too many hours wasted. You have to sit through so many hands to get one you should play. Just seems a waste of life. But, look at all the time I waste of here so who am I to talk.
