Mack Rhoades is a Mother****ing Disaster

Here's another cherry on the shit sundae:

Missouri's softball team has launched a protest against athletics director Mack Rhoades and the athletic administration, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Players released a statement before playing a game Saturday, under protest, at home against South Carolina.

“The Missouri athletic department is conducting a wholly unsubstantiated investigation of our softball program and the softball coaching staff,” the statement reads. “The softball players support and love our coaching staff, and we wonder why this black cloud is being put over our program intentionally by Mizzou AD Mack Rhoades.”

But to hate on Sunvold because of his ties to "Sit Down Norm" is as bad as considering him because he is tied to Norm.

The problem is that as bad as the situation is at MU and the fact that the students are now running the university, no self respecting AD candidate would take this job.

I think "the problem" is that many of our good "tree" candidates have recently taken jobs elsewhere.

Everyone I know who interacted with Wren Baker in any capacity thinks that is a bullet dodged. He and Mack are the same... Guys who can succeed in Texas where boosters are knocking down their door and the job is easier.

They didn't "lose" Wren Baker. He was never going to be the AD.

Would suspect it's Dave Owens ultimately. Don't think Sundvold is really chasing it (but not convinced he's be awful, either).

The students are not running the University. That's pure fiction.

How is Dave Owens that much different than Sunvold? I know that he worked in the AD for a while, but he hasn't been in an actual one for over 30 years.

Fiction or not, that's the perception that is felt outside of Missouri.

I've been in Louisiana twice since the incident (March and July) and in Florida once (June). I talked to college sports/SEC fans at each stop and it wasn't brought up once.

He only people still upset about it, for the most part, are angry white guys (and those whose audiences are made up of angry white guys, like Clay Travis).

There may be some who are still thinking about it, but it isn't ubiquitous.

What had happened to enrollment?

Little more ubiquitous than you think.

It took a hit. The fallout affected that, sure. But it was already setting up to take a hit, because they have had record enrollment for something like 5 straight years leading up to the 16-17 freshman class.

Advisors knew a dip was coming. Was told before the protest hit the news it was going to be down by a decent margin. The protest probably doubled that.

My point is that this is already out of the news cycle and consciousness outside the state.

Almost all of the people still fired up about it are locals, and many of them are or have been Mizzou supporters. All they do by continuing to be angry about it and bring it up is hurt the school.

Time to get over it and let it fade into history.

When we get rid of the Mike Middleton: Appeasement Hire or the BOC shows any sort of spine in the coming years, I'll let it go.

My problem isn't with the events themselves, it's how quickly and how glaringly they exposed the feckless incompetence of the Board of Curators.

I've seen no indication that any of that is going to change in the near future.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree....i live in SC, travel all over GA, and have worked the last 2 months in Florida. Wanna know what people say when you tell them that you are a Mizzou fan? They all talk about the incidents last year....and how it must be pretty bad if your AD leaves to go to a situation much worse like Baylor.

People aren't going to forget how the student body pretty much brought the administration to it's knees. Now, i will say the SEC days last week has gotten more attention and maybe as we move further away from last year it will become less of a topic.

But if MU has a crappy football season, and we know they will stink at BB, people will point to that incident as the catalyst for our decline in our major sports.
