Is Brandon Albert proving some of the draftniks here right?

So far this season he has not looked very good. What do you think it is? Is he a LG and not a LT (like some draftniks here insisted)? Is he going through sophomore jinx? Is it the weight loss?

You know what? I think I'll make a poll about it.

Those aren't high.

And furthermore, I thought we were talking about the Chiefs here?

If so, then discussing picks 15-20 is ridiculous. We picked 5th and 3rd overall the last two years. And we'll be likely picking in the Top 10 again this year.

I'd say I don't. But the lack of evidence on either side of the argument will make this at best a case of "I said, she said."

It happens. Marcus McNeal of the Chargers gave up twice as many sacks his 2nd year as he did his first year. Can't do anything about it at this point anyway.

AGAIN,..... nobody is saying Albert is a BUST. But he may not be another Willie Roaf. That said, his play this year at LT will determine whether he will be moved to RG next year with us going for a LT in the 1st round. I do not believe he is a lost investment. Also I am actually among the group who thinks BA is just dealing with changes.

Yet your poll has no option for, "he is fine, it was one game". Every option in your poll is negative, which is why I didn't vote.

Were you really expecting Willie Roaf? That guy is a 1st-ballot HOF, once in a generation type OT.

If that's your criteria and expectation then you're crazy.

Speaking of Jack Youngblood (who is well known for playing through the 1979 playoffs and Superbowl XIV with a broken leg), here is a great little anecdote about that Rams defensive line ... "Youngblood credits Merlin Olsen for his toughness. Youngblood said that Olsen had to be one of the toughest guys he'd ever played with. He recalled one time when a guy stepped on Merlin's hand with nylon cleats, ripping his hand wide open. Olsen came back to the huddle holding it. Youngblood looked over, could see all the bones, and almost fainted. Merlin said, 'Aw it's all right.' Merlin held it together and stopped the bleeding a little bit. That was first down. He stayed out there two more plays before we went to the sidelines."

Personally, I don't think defensive linemen are quite as tough as they used to be.

So far as Albert is concerned, based on the 1 on 1 matchups I've seen him lose, it looks as though two things are happening; 1) His footwork and balance are screwed up. Basically, he looks to be playing too high, to me. Maybe it's overcoaching, overthinking, or undereating, but whatever it is, it's messed up. 2) He isn't stopping his man with his first burst. It's as though he's expecting that, when he comes off the ball and hits his man, the guy will stop (or at least slow down) and that's not happening. Ergo, that technique is not working for him. Lack of strength? Practicing too much against our crap defensive line? Again, playing too high (that's my guess)?

I think he'll be okay, but he needs to play with his ass a little closer to the ground.

So what poll option did you vote for, Mr. FAX?

Mr. Frankie isn't crazy. Herm is crazy.

Is anyone here absolutely, 100 percent, bet-the-ranch convinced that Albert is our long-term solution at LT? Or, if we were to find a legitimate, highly talented, natural LT, that we wouldn't consider either trading Albert or moving him to another position depending on how flexible he would be with his contract?

So far as I know, Albert only began playing LT when he put on a Chiefs uniform. How do we know that is his best and highest use as a player? It may be ... then again, circumstances may prove otherwise. Does everybody really think that, were Pioli to find a legitimate, young, high-value, HOF-destined, LT for the right money that he would pass on the guy in order to stick with Albert? I, for one, am not so sure.

I didn't vote, Mr. Frankie. Personally, I think it's far too early to tell how Albert will fare this year - or even into the future. I'm admittedly a little concerned about his performance against the Ravens. Still, by all accounts, he has a lot of room to grow, learn, and improve.

He's very new to the position and, at this point, it's difficult to know where his ceiling really is.

The problem is you wont find anyone who fits that description in the NFL draft.
