I'm very discerning, always. Pro wrestling, done correctly, is beautiful and powerful. They're our modern morality plays, adopting the guise of structured fighting to tell archetypal tales of good vs evil, performed in the round. |

Is wrestling scripted? Of course it is. Yes, many moves are fake and the outcomes and storylines are scripted before hand. These guys live a hectic schedule. Wrestling 300 out of the 365 days a year. It's different now because WWE bought out their competition (WCW/ECW) and they now have different rosters on each show, but during the Attitude era it used to be that the entire roster would appear on both shows. You had Sunday Night Heat, Monday Night Raw, and Smackdown taped on Tuesdays, but was aired on Thursdays. So there's 3 days in a row where these wrestlers would have to perform top notch at a high level for millions TV viewers. This isn't even counting the house shows/dark matches that aren't even aired on TV. Sometimes WWE will make a pit stop through a small college town (like Columbia, MO - they've performed house shows many times at the Hearnes Center), and will perform matches that have absolutely nothing to do w/ the soap opera storylines we see on TV. Point is these guys have more hectic schedules than any other professional sports athletes I can think of. If you get a badly sprained ankle on Sunday Night Heat, but need to be good to go the following night for Monday Night Raw, guess what? You pop shit loads of pain pills and drug yourself to the point where you can't feel anything. Combine that with the rockstar type lifestyle, the partying, the booze, the juicing, and it's no wonder many of these pro wrestling stars die in their 50's.
But most of these guys are in incredible shape.....juicing or not. You have to be VERY athletic to perform some of the moves they do on the mat. And many of them get hurt, bumps, bruises, cuts, broken bones, strained muscles, tears in ligaments, etc. Not to mention it's very tiring, and the slightest wrong move could result in serious permanent injury. Have you guys ever been in a wrestling ring? I have, had an old roomate when I lived in CoMo that used to drive down to Eldon 2x/week to practice/train. He always wanted to get in a ring, and convinced me to come down and try it out one weekend. Went to the Harley Race wrestling camp, owned by Reid Flair and Mike Dibiase. Names sound familiar? They happen to be the sons of Ric Flair and the Ted "Million Dollar Man" Dibiase. First you have to get your body into condition to where it can take a beating. The first night after a day-long training session I came home and was black/blue all over and was sore as hell for the next week. Now obviously my body wasn't used to such physical punishment. But regardless these guys don't **** around. And many of them are stronger than an ox. It doesn't feel too good getting bodyslammed and it sure as hell doesn't feel good when a 250lb monster jumps and lands on you from the top rope, even if you only get landed on just a little bit. Many physical aspects of pro wrestling is very real. Switching gears here for a moment.... The scripted parts are usually the storylines (obviously) and who wins the match. Pro wrestling has gotten so bad with this PG WWE shit. Horrible character development. No wrestlers (other than the guys left over from the attitude era) are larger than life stars. You can make the argument for John Cena, but he even sucks in his own right. Almost everyone who followed pro wrestling closely throughout the Attitude era thinks Cena is a douchebag. You could have Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Shaemus, or Alberto Del Rio walk through an international airport and they might be recognized by a few WWE fans, mostly would probably be younger kids. I remember watching Raw for the first time in like 6-7 years since like 2003. These guys started coming out on stage and I'm just sitting here thinking "Who the **** are these turds?" Take someone like HHH, Undertaker, or esp The Rock, and you could have them walk into an Oak Grove Walmart and everyone would immediately know who those guys are. It's gotten so bad I stopped watching it. Even The Rock is no longer The Rock anymore. He's Dwayne "Twitter ****ass" Johnson and doesn't talk in 3rd person any longer. The last funny moment he had was when he was on the Boston Harbor bridge making fun of Cena's merchandise. ok i'm done ranting....

People that age who have major heart attacks and 'die' for 20 minutes don't look that well.

(and if the "dead for 20-minutes" thing is bothering you, that was never verified by any official source and as such isn't part of any record of what happened. It's certainly not something that Lawler or WWE are throwing out there) |

What is exactly wrong with watching wrestling? It's like any other guilty pleasure. We don't watch it thinking we will see something that changes our life.

Is that true? I haven't met enough to know, although I feel thinking its a fact is a little bit of a stretch. From everything I have seen in wrestling and how they handled this, it wasn't fake. Not to mention it stops the story line they had going with him. So aside from how they handled it and the hospital saying it was legit, it doesn't make sense to do this even if they wanted to.

Because I missed it earlier. And now I just don't care.
Why do you guys have your panties in a bunch over me talking shit about wrestling? Pro wrestling is as lame as The Voice or The X Factor. Garbage TV. Flame away
