Kansas City held hostage by Absentee Ownership

Just my opinion feel free to ignore, but that should be the theme of saveourchiefs.

This city has been held hostage by disconnected, out-of-town ownership and that's the narrative the national (and to some degree local) media have missed. Clark Hunt lives in Texas and David Glass lives in Arkansas. They can't feel your pain or passion. They're tone deaf to the issues undermining their teams. They're riding the NFL and MLB gravy trains. They turn a profit regardless of how much effort they put into their ballclubs.

Kansas City sports fans are tired of being held hostage by Absentee Ownership.

Might be?

You are seriously into WB Superhero movies. I'll have to try and find you some shwag.

Firing Pioli midseason, before the bye week, would be reactionary.

At the end of the season, after a careful evaluation, would not.

There's no way Pioli should be fired during the season.

It would cause a lot of unnecessary chaos.

Would be kinda fun, though.

His logical choice failed, and it happens. It's part of business. How you respond to those failures determine the success of an organization.

If he cans Pioli, and there is a replacement at GM, HC and a legitimate QB in town next Sept 1, I'll be a big Clark Hunt fan.
This.

It's hard to build a SB team but it can be done much easier than 10 or 15 years ago

It doesn't take 4 years. With the draft slotting and new rules on draft picks a team can afford to take a risk.

If what you tried isn't working you make changes and take another swing at it...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

In principle, I agree. The problem, though, is that this is a fight that cannot be won. No one can force either of these individuals to sell their teams.

Firing an incompetent GM and forcing the organization to privilege the QB position, however? These fights are manageable.

I actually posted a thread about this very thing after the Chargers game. Both owners are not doing the city any favors.

Why didn't anybody cry about Lamar being absentee in the first 45 years? The main reason this has become an issue is because of Glass and the Chiefs have been abysmal lately.

Yeah, I get it, but frankly, there's nothing we can do about that. As fans we could empty that stadium and it still wouldnt matter. KC is an afterthought...nothing that anyone in the sports media cares about or pays attention to save for your defense of the fans.

The only thing we get is incredulity for the being fans of a team upset at the constant crap sandwich. Oh...how dare we fans get all 'uppity' for being upset that this franchise has been nothing short of a perennial loser all these years. We should apparently be thankful we even have a bottom feeder team. Eff that...we deserve better than this nonsense.

It was a different era. Although I heard that all my life.

The first ten years of the Chiefs franchise were arguably the best of any new franchise, ever. A competitive team that played in the first Super Bowl and won it just a few years later.

From 1974 to 1990, this team was a joke and a laughing stock. Brand new Arrowhead Stadium suffered from regular blackouts and a third to one half empty stands every Sunday. Apathy couldn't have been higher.

I'm certain that if social media had been around, Lamar Hunt would have taken far more abuse than Clark and definitely much more on a national scale. If Berman offended him in 1987, I can only imagine the shame Lamar would have felt in the mid-70's.

But as I've said for years, Chiefs fans and Kansas Citians are far too nice. If this team were located in a large market, they would have been shredded by the fans and media until major changes were made.

I think the problem is less about absenteeism. It's about the front office caring too much and being too involved. They're putting way too much time into creating a veil of secrecy. Peterson used that same time to open the team up to the fans.

Get rid of Pioli. Open the team back up to the fans. Let the media write their fluff pieces about the Chiefs again.

That will never happen under Pioli. You keep Pioli, you continue to kill Arrowhead.
