How good, exactly, is Branden Albert.

Here's a list of the starting left tackles from last year, according to NFL.com:

Nate Solder (Patriots)
D'Brickashaw Ferguson (Jets)
Jake Long (Dolphins)
Cordy Glenn (Bills)

Bryant McKinnie (Ravens)
Max Starks (Steelers)
Andrew Whitworth (Bengals)
Joe Thomas (Browns)

Anthony Castonzo (Colts)
Eugene Monroe (Jaguars)
Michael Roos (Titans)
Duane Brown (Texans)

Branden Albert (Chiefs)
Ryan Clady (Broncos)
Michael Harris (Chargers)
Jared Veldeer (Raiders)

Will Beatty (Giants)
Tyron Smith (Cowboys)
Trent Williams (Redskins)
King Dunlap (Eagles)

J'Marcus Webb (Bears)
Marshall Newhouse (Packers)
Jeff Backus (Lions)
Matt Kalil (Vikings)

Jerman Bushrod (Saints)
Donald Penn (Buccaneers)
Jordan Gross (Panthers)
Sam Baker (Falcons)

Joe Staley (49ers)
Levi Brown (Cardinals)
Russell Okung (Seahawks)
Roger Saffold (Rams)

You want to call Branden Albert a top 10 LT? Then list specifically where he lands in this list.

Keep in mind, we're probably going to have at least three new ones next year in Bryan Bulaga (Packers), Mike Adams (if he can beat out Starks in Pittsburgh), Luke Joeckel (whomever drafts him) and Eric Fisher (same).

Point is, Albert could be the reincarnation of Willie Roaf, Orlando Pace and Anthony Munoz, and it still wouldnt matter until we get a QB. But if you put Albert on any of those final 4 teams from last season, ill bet they end up with the same results.
Here's my take on the situation.

Albert's problem, if you want to call it a problem, is he's not consistently great. He's consistently good, but not consistently great. He's a guy who can be your starting LT for 10 years and you'll never have a problem with him having pro bowl or near-pro bowl seasons year after year. He's great at the position, he's near the top of the league at the position, and you can't ask much more out of him.

The difference between Albert and "the best" is that his play doesn't elevate like the "best" against stout competition. Guys like Munoz and Roaf had some of their best games against colossal opponents, and came out the other end with a superstar game.

Every year Albert has 4 or 5 games where you see him just tear it up and you think to yourself, "God damn this guy is good", but then you carry that expectation on to the next game and he plays a good game, but doesn't physically dominate the opponents like he did in the previous game or two. Still, he doesn't foul up, but you want to see more because you KNOW he's got more to show. It just doesn't come out in the game.

If the back troubles truly are the culprit, then we know why we see this every year, its holding him back. If not, then you just have to throw up your hands and say "I dunno".

Regardless, Albert is someone I want on my team all day long. I think he's a great teammate and hard worker. I don't need a HoF tackle in place of him, because my guy is every bit as good, but he's got cohesion with the rest of the squad. And that is something you can't place a value on, despite the Chiefs offering him up for a 2nd and conditional 2014. I hope we keep him.

Branden Albert hasn't been a consistent difference maker. He played well last year on a line that wasn't as good as Jamaal Charles made it seem. Giving up only one sack is a badge of honor, but he did it while only starting 11 or 12 games for a team that threw the ball less than almost every other NFL franchise. If last year was what we can expect on a consistent basis, I'd still take it. He's not the guy who guarantees you a first down on 3rd and short though, and it's questionable about whether or not he's the guy who can elevate the game of the LG like some standout LTs can.

Hey...you don't have a 20 year playoff drought for being competent. Dumb ****ing assholes.
What does the 20 year drought have to do with Andy Reid and John Dorsey? Did they just get stupid when they signed on to the team?

They traded for Alex Smith.

That leaves yours question open in my book.

This post completely ignores his very good 2011 season.

He was the first guard drafted in 2008. Just because the dumbass kc chefs moved him to tackle doesn't mean he played tackle in college. Hey, here's another idea, why doesn't your moronic front office draft Chance Warmack and move him to tackle after trading away Albert?

Albert played LT and G in college. He is a true LT, and a very good one.

I'm sorry you are reeruned and can't see that.

Whoever took Albert was going to play him as a LT. It was talked about at the combine and his pro day. There's a reason why the draft guys who announced the pick instantly started talking about him as a LT before Herm could even say a single word on the matter.

Also, you're a ****ing dumbass.

Welp, after going over the "just let Albert go and draft his replacement"-posts, I've decided this team deserves every ounce of FAIL and suck it will endure at the whims of Reid, should he follow that path.

They already deserve it for following the same formula that has been a big ol' bucket of fail since 1983.
