Brady and Rodgers have never failed my eye test. I bet with someone on this board, who left forever (ribking), that Rodgers was going to have a 90 QB rating + his first year when Favre retired / unretired.

I've always said Brady was the 2nd best QB I've ever seen.

Nice try, though.

If you didn't understand the Brady/Rodgers threads from last year, that's on you.

I'm not sure what there is not to love about Teddy. The only thing I've seen is that he doesn't have a rocket arm. It's average. But he has run a pro system for 4 years. He has complete command of his offense. Oh and he gets an okay running back this year. Plus he gets Kyle Rudolph back and they added mike Wallace.

Lucky smart bastards those Vikings.

I think Derek Carr is out of the league in 3 years.
If Alex Smith can be a starter and play for 10 years- a midget with one leg and a lazy eye can play for 8

Carr was horrid. He was better than Bortles and McCown. That's it. I don't care what "paper stats" say. The reason the Raiders were bad was because their QB was bad. That's how it usually works, and I learned that from ChiefsPlanet ... over, and over, and over, and over.

I'm not sure on Bridgewater. I'll admit that. He might end up being a good QB. I am sure on Carr. He is garbage.
He had a better rookie year than Andrew Luck- You're making it appear that Carrs been playing in the FL for 3 years- he was a rookie QB with bad WR's- and did something Alex didnt do

Throw 14 TD passes to some bad WR's, hell, Alex couldnt muster up one

by what metric did he have a better rookie year than Andrew Luck?

Andrew Luck's best year, to date, was his rookie year.

Again, paper stats don't mean a thing to me, it's context. The Raiders lost last year, and lost bad, because Carr was atrocious. He put up some stats in lopsided games in the 4th quarter. Big deal.

He was the 3rd worst QB in the NFL last year ... only Josh McCown and Blake Bortles were worse.

Better rookie year than Luck? LOLOLOL

QBR is basically the football version of baseball WAR. Start using it.

You guys tear me up. Alex Smith needs great weapons, a good line, a good defense, more than 1 year to learn a system and to get on the same page as the WRs. A rookie QB should excel right away in a new system, gel with his team, and is assumed to be dropped into the middle of an offense without flaws.

I'm not saying a rookie should do that ... I'm just not sure how anyone thought Carr passed any sort of eye test with his 1 read timid throws all year where he literally graded out as the 3rd worst QB in the NFL (ahead of Bortles and McCown).

He was legitimately bad last year. Really bad. Geno had a better QBR than him in 2013 and 2014.

Carr has no shot. He's terrible.

"Garbage time skewed Carr's stats considerably. :lupe:

Not just 6 TDs, he improved his yardage and efficiency stats too.

Defining garbage time as trailing by 9 or more points when starting a drive with less than 5 minutes to play (a situation where the defense doesn't mind allowing a dink and dunk TD drive that bleeds the block), the Raiders had 6 TD drives in garbage time last year, while the rest of the league combined had only 24.

They had 14 drive opportunities that met those criteria, meaning they scored on 43% of their drives in garbage time -- http://pfref.com/tiny/wO0ac -- (Packers were #1 in TD scoring per drive for the season as a whole at 33%).

The Raiders 6 garbage time TD drives -- http://pfref.com/tiny/hHAOb -- averaged 10.2 plays per drive and covered 76.7 yards in 2:21. That's 460 yards in total.

Oakland ran 81 passing plays (including sacks and some plays where McGloin was the QB late in the Miami game) in garbage time, the most in the league -- http://pfref.com/tiny/JsN5r -- and 12 rushing plays (including 3 by Carr) in that situation -- http://pfref.com/tiny/Nm6ej

Considering the Carr rushes as scrambles that were probably called passes, that means they had 84 pass plays compared to 9 run plays in garbage time, nearly a 90% pass rate.

No surprise that Carr put up the biggest numbers of attempts and yardage in the league in garbage time --http://pfref.com/tiny/JsN5r . Here are his stats: 42/68 (61.8%) for 444 yards (6.5 YPA), 6 TDs, 2 INTs, PR 97.9

Compared to his stats for the year as a whole, those numbers are almost all better (the INT% alone is worse).

Removing the garbage time numbers, Carr's stats otherwise: 302/531 (56.9%) for 2826 yards (5.32 YPA), 15 TDs, 10 INTs, PR 73.2

Carr's YPA was already one of the worst in league history, especially compared to the league average in that given year.

Looking for all QBs with 300+ attempts since 1970, Carr had the 16th lowest YPA with 5.46 (one of only 81 QBs to finish with a YPA below 6.1, what Vikings fans can think of as the Christian Ponder line) -- http://pfref.com/tiny/gV08P. On that table, a YPA of 5.32 (Carr without the bump in his stats from garbage time) would tie AJ Feeley for the 10th worst YPA season of all time.

Adjusting that same search to control for era (normalized against the league average YPA for each given year), Carr's 5.46 YPA is converted to a YPA+ (YPA index) of 61 -- where 100 is average. That's 3rd worst in league history --http://pfref.com/tiny/ddXBM -- behind only Rusty Hilger 1988 and Mark Rypien 1993 (Vikings fans, Ponder 2012 ends up 35th).

Take away Carr's yardage from garbage time, and he would've had the worst YPA+ season of all time.
Yet, GoChiefs is a fan. Surprise, surprise. I thought YPA was the stat to look at with a QB, Clay? No? No?

Im not sold on him like I am Bridgewater but Ill hold off a bit before passing judgement. That team was shit. Lets see what happens when he has Cooper.

I'm not a fan. I just think he looked decent for a rookie. We should be objective about such things when our own QB was a disaster as a rookie.

I mean, how many years did it take Alex to hit 21 TD passes?

meaning you didn't watch him play ... you just looked at his final stat line (as evidenced at the post you directed my way earlier)

he turned in one of the least efficient QB years in league history. He was truly awful. His numbers were grossly skewed by being the QB in a lot of lopsided games where opposing defenses let up.

Garbage TDs and short TDs.

The problem is that his touchdowns were short in distance. In fact, 16 of them came from 10 yards out or closer. And among all NFL teams, only the Dolphins averaged shorter touchdown passes than the Raiders last year.

https://www.numberfire.com/nfl/news/...akland-raiders
And I don't care if he's a rookie. That doesn't work anymore in this NFL. It's a passing league that caters to any GOOD QB. Every single one of the good QB's from the last 5 years adjusted to the NFL right away. No issues.

I watched enough Derek Carr last year to tell you he is not an NFL QB. He's timid, he makes 1 read, and he shows almost no competitive fire. He plays like he's relieved when the series is over and he doesn't do something ****ing stupid.

I see nothing from this guy. He doesn't pass any sort of eye test. He was truly awful last year and had a "paper stats" kind of year because his team was truly awful as well (which tends to happen when the QB of the team is awful).

No upside. At all. Raiders are going to be garbage, again, this year. #1 reason? Garbage QB.
