Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

DJ's idea was about as stupid as was his decision to refer to himself as DJ's Left Nut.

To me, we are talking about cold-blooded murder regardless of circumstance...sure wasn't defending himself.
I was agreeing with him about Belcher being a stone cold killer if the reason why he killed her was because she got home late from the concert.

Though I certainly understand where he is coming from in hoping that a person he liked just snapped instead of just being a stone cold killer.

Raiders fan here. I just registered so I could give my sincere condolences to all the Chiefs fans and the Chiefs organisation in this time of sorrow. This goes beyond football and rivalries. I hope the league does the right thing and postpones your game.

I was telling my mom about what happened on the phone this afternoon, and she said, "You know, 24 hours ago.. that guy probably could never have imagined that it'd all end up like this."

Just ****ing tragic.

Refreshing and brutal honesty. Unheard of in situations like this. I think MOST of us at one time or another has felt uncontrollable rage that, if not given a momentary pause and/or the lack of weapon, would land us in jail. I know I have as a partner and even as a parent. Luckily they have been rare and fleeting.

For someone battling rage and coping issues I think there is a culmination effect if left untreated.

Condolences from a Charger fan .....

Dreadful occurrence, cannot even imagine how Crennell and the other coach are supposed to coach after witnessing such a thing or how the players are expected to play under these circumstances within a 24 hour period, mind boggling.

Saddest part as always after events like this, is another child having to grow up parentless, in what is becoming a more cruel world by the second.

Most women can have sex just 6 weeks after child birth.

His poor, poor mom... lost her son and beloved adopted daughter all in the same day, it must've been such an incredibly traumatic scene she witnessed.

What an awful day for her, this is the kind of thing that can literally take years from a persons life.

I hope that baby is enough to keep her going.

Really stupid, could've broken my hand had a stud been there. I was young, I was an idiot...but so was Belcher when the college incident happened.

But shit man, I've only ever hit another human being once in my life. I've never so much as contemplated getting physical with a woman (in fact, married the same girl and we've been married for 7 years).

I hadn't thought about it, but you're right. It's really unfair to try to hang that incident around his neck now. Some people have a temper - but it doesn't mean they're violent. Apart from this incident, we just don't see any indication that Belcher has shown a 'violent' streak. Just the same idiot young kid temper that a lot of us had in our youth.

Well I have hit a lot of human beings in my life in the younger years. I definately had some rage issues. With women I have never been that angry at one but I have friends who are in relationships with women that just want to push and will do anything to them. In relationships I think you have to be ready to walk even with kids if the behavior is bad. For the life of me I have no idea why guys stay in those relationships. I am not saying that is what happened here, I'm just saying. It also annoys me that when guys get pushed over the edge the woman always gets societies vicitim pass. These things are rarely one sided, one time issues. Once again I am not justifying anything or saying that was the case here just making a casual observation about domestic altercations in general.

Yeah, well I ain't talking about the law.

The law and the truth are two separate concepts entirely.

Belcher ain't going to court, either. Call it what you want, as will I. I call it murder.

See my point above.

I'm saying that whatever he killed her for, that's cold-blooded murder AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. I'm not about to continue to argue semantics about it.

We ARE talking about killing somebody, right? Making that deliberate choice.

Well, I'm glad we've settled what the definition of cold blooded murder is AS FAR AS YOU'RE CONCERNED. However, the rest of the world has a slightly different interpretation of it. Cold blooded murder is exactly what it sounds like. It's planned, it's prepared, it's committed in a fashion designed to evade being caught. this wasn't that.
