I would rate the potential replacements for Adams in this order:

1. Napoli (largely dependent upon the Red Sox continuing to suck)
2. Ike Davis (surely the A's will start selling soon)

Beyond that, you start dredging for guys like Morneau.

I didn't see the first hit; softball game.

Did he drive it? If so, where was the pitch location?

If he ever starts getting on top of pitches on the inner half and at/near his waist or higher, I'll believe that he's turned a corner. Otherwise, he's just another guy with a single quadrant of the zone that you probably shouldn't throw it into.

That's a pretty massive disappointment.

We got this far without a first baseman; why give up assets now? I'm still disappointed that we didn't make a play for Adam Lind. The Brewers got him for a batting practice machine with a Marco Estrada jersey on it; surely we could have swung that.

And yes, the idea of putting Matt Holliday at 1b is absolutely, positively, completely goddamn insane. But still, if you could shoehorn him in there and give us an OF of Grichuk/Bourjos/Heyward....{drool}.

That defense would be on par with anyone in baseball's, KC included (well, presuming that Heyward stops smoking pole).

I doubt he's played 1b for a day in his life, but it sure would solve a lot of problems. It's dumb. Real dumb. It's a Playstation idea and nothing more.

I still want them to try it.

You give up assets for a 1b for the same reason you were criticizing Reynolds not 24 hours ago.

Davis would be pretty cheap. He costs four million and then has an arb year.

A C+ prospect should be enough to get him.

As an aside - when can I blame that fat asshole for being a fat asshole?

Hey Matt, hit a goddamn treadmill and maybe your quad won't ****ing explode on a 75 degree night at 26 years old. Twenty six you tubby bastard! There's absolutely no excuse at all for a ****ing professional athlete being in such bad shape that his quad blows out running a solid 110 feet in mid 70 degree weather AT 26 YEARS OLD!!!!!

Eat a salad, dickhead. Your mass clearly isn't helping you hit and every single year you are saddled with a variety of ailments. How 'bout you take your craft seriously, jackass.

Was I criticizing Reynolds? I don't recall if I was

I said he could play every day, he just wouldn't be a perfect option. There are things he does well and things he doesn't.

By October he'll be worthless but theoretically by October Adams will be healthy.

But given that Adams is, as you mention, a fat asshole (a phrase which always reminds me of Landfill in Beerfest and is a much more appropriate name than Big City), do you trust the guy to take his rehab seriously? Do you trust him to come back with his timing down?

Reynolds is going to have a month where he hits .110 with 50 strikeouts. It would be nice to have some insurance for that beyond Xavier Scrubbs.

Remember - Piscotty came through college and into the Cardinals system as a 3b. The worry was actually his throwing arm.

If you're looking to replace Adams long-term, Piscotty seems to have added some loft to his swing so he's providing some pretty decent production. If you can get by for another 2-3 weeks to get through Super 2 status, Piscotty getting a look at 1b may not be the worst idea.

So how 'bout Piscotty?

He has IF experience and hit his 8th HR today. He's feeling his way to a happy medium between the slap hitter he was last year and the somewhat sloppy hacker he's become this year, but if he can find that middle ground, he'd be a huge boost and frankly, the long-term option we need to replace Adams.

Adams was clearly given too much, too soon. We moved a guy who'd played MVP caliber baseball to RF to make room for him and then just keep insisting that he's the unchallenged starting 1b. He hasn't had his job on the line and it's obvious in his conditioning and his approach at the plate. He's not advanced as a hitter - he's the same mindless slugger he's been for 2 seasons now. At some point you think he'd look at some film and maybe get ahead in the count on accident every once in awhile.

Like Heyward, I'm just incredibly disappointed in Adams. He has the talent to be a legitimate big league hitter. He just doesn't have the drive.

Doesn't really seem fair to have a guy who is doing Mark Reynolds things in AAA provide offense at the premier offensive position while also learning that new position (despite its relative simplicity) at the big league level.

I don't remember, base hit to left.

I think part of that is Mabry in his ear

Well, Gonzalez has a shoulder issue, and Jaime is normally a time bomb so we are gonna probably end up looking for a starter.

Who do the red Sox have that would make sense?

I could see something stupid happening like trading to get Joe Kelly back.
