Cash bar or foot the bill? Wedding poll
So we're attending a wedding in STL in a few weeks, and instead of footing the bill themselves, it's a cash bar.

What are your thoughts on this?

I kinda think if youre having a big fancy all weekend kinda wedding, pay for the bar tab, but I get it I guess, miney wise.

So, what say you?

Went back to Iowa for a buddy's wedding this summer. He's 40 something, Mr. Gotbucks, squeezes that quarter til the eagle screams. Bastard went cash bar. We groomsman camped at the bar after dinner and facilitated.

I feel like if it's a financial burden to go open bar then cash bar is fine. Otherwise the hospitable thing is to open that bad boy up...

Weddings are a bit of a mystery to me. Where I come from, weddings are held and the reception afterwards has fruit punch and some of those soft pillow-shaped mints. No one ever had meals, much less served alcohol.

Frankly, I like it that way. Weddings make me uncomfortable. Too much emotion lying around and being spoken and stuff. I don't need that. My goal is just to get in and get out.

Sounds nice but I'm guessing the post reception one night stand tradition may be negatively impacted...

To reiterate, I don't have a problem with a cash bar if you're wanting to save some money.

But going black tie downtown stl for 3 days seems a bit cheapish to me

If you're hampered on the budget, just elope to Vegas.

Traditional weddings are a thing that should become extinct. Putting that big wedding budget towards a down payment for a house or rainy day fund would help a young married couple a lot more.
