****Official **** You Mike Mayock Thread**** (OP UPDATED)
http://m.nfl.com/news/0ap1000000140130/
The Kansas City Chiefs need a quarterback, but there aren't any this season that look like a top-ten talent, much less a No. 1 overall pick. The way Mike Mayock sees it, the Chiefs should be looking to the offensive line for their first overall pick. And there are only four players worth the No. 1 overall pick in this draft for Kansas City: Alabama guard Chance Warmack, UNC guard Jonathan Cooper, Texas A&M tackle Luke Joekel, or Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher. Mayock said on a conference call Monday that some people will say he's crazy to potentially take a guard at No. 1 overall, but Mayock says Warmack is the best player in this draft. So he doesn't see it as crazy at all. In the end, Mayock believes the pick could come down to Joekel or Warmack. This is a draft where the top-shelf players don't stand apart too much, and there may not be a huge difference between picks 5 and 25. That makes it a tricky spot for the Chiefs. Don't be surprised if Kansas City builds from the inside out, and finds their quarterback of the future later. He gives the Chiefs 4 options at #1 and they're all offensive lineman? Go **** yourself bro @Jacobs71: Here is what Mayock said on #Chiefs pick in full "Well, part of it depends on what they're going to do with free agency and Branden Albert." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think the answer to that, obviously, is going to give you the answer. Sitting where they are, let's face it, they need a QB." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"We don't know that there are a lot of people who think Geno Smith is in that ballpark." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"I don't, but there are a lot of people that think he should be considered." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"When you look at what they're going to do, what are they going to do with Dwayne Bowe?" @Jacobs71: Mayock:" Whoever the quarterback is, they need a wide receiver. And I think John Dorsey has to be thinking what is the big picture here?" @Jacobs71: Mayock:"I've got one, and I've got 34. What is the best combination of getting the most value out of that?" @Jacobs71: Mayock:"And I think that offensive lineman at 1 is the most solid guy they can go with." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"I don't care whether it's Warmack or Joeckel. People will tell me I'm crazy that a guard can't go No. 1." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think he's the best player in the draft, so I would argue that." @Jacobs71: Mayock:" But either way, I think they've got to get an offensive lineman and come back at 33 and prepare to go with a QB or WR." @Jacobs71: When I asked Mayock about who fits Reid's system at QB: " I think Matt Barkley makes a lot of sense." @Jacobs71: Mayock:" He's a guy as a junior at USC looked so much different than he did this year." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"With Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson, I think all three of those guys you have to go back and watch junior tape. " @Jacobs71: Mayock:" So I think Barkley fits what he does. I think Ryan Nassib fits what he does." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson both can fit what he does." @Jacobs71: Mayock:"So of those, that group of guys of the top seven, eight quarterbacks, I think those are the guys that did it most efficiently." I will say this though. With Barkley not throwing this week, that is a huge benefit to Geno, but he has to have a completely great week in all phases to get into the top 10.
He can't just look good throwing short and intermediate passes. He has to nail them all. And he has to nail the interviews. But that's basically what every other QB has to do too. I doubt he'll look better than Glennon throwing the deep ball since Glennon puts great velocity and solid accuracy on his deep passes.

Well, Kiper and others are saying he can do that at the combine. So I guess it worked out either way.

I agree, but if they don't get him back, then no we dont. Also, we are changing schemes to a pure pass attack -- Joeckel is better by quite a bit than Albert is at pass blocking. Albert is a good LT for what he is, but Joeckel is and always will be a better pass blocker. It might just come down to that for this staff -- if you're going to pay the man, make sure of your options and pay the right man for the job. I believe this is why Albert got so pissed off at the new staff last week -- they want him to sign (accordingly) and play guard.

But I digress. I agree with your statement, and have no doubts that Geno will impress. |

To say I'm pessimistic and cynical when it comes to the Chiefs QB position is an understatement. |

Geno is in position to do the same. As for Glennon, for most teams, the deep passes are going to be offset by his erratic throwing in the 10-30 range. You can get drafted throwing a rocket deep ball but you can't make a living in the NFL playing shitty in the intermediate passing game. |

I'm looking for 2002 Andy Reid, not 2010 Andy Reid. Not appealing at all. |

If you're gonna try to argue Reid isn't as good with QBs as people think, you're gonna fail. |

If you have a guy who isn't damn accurate in the short intermediate zone, but throws a deep ball well, throw it deep. When you hit, it will more offset the shitty accuracy short. |

Like he said, outside of McNabb, it hasn't been his development, it's been the player themselves. |
