First, my take.
Screw Al Davis and screw the Raiders. He was a manipulative cheater, his teams were dirty, and he was a psychotic, micro managing idiot. Good riddance, the earth is a better place today. Now, the take from Ange Coniglio, my friend from "Remember the AFL" website. His take is a little more objective than mine: AFL Fans and former players: I am sorry to inform you of the death of Al Davis. Contrary to what some NFL (and even some AFL) sources would have us believe, Al had as much as anyone to do with the development of modern Professional Football. He took the Raiders from being an also-ran to a powerhouse. He brought the NFL to its knees and forced them to ask for a merger with the AFL. He always considered himself an AFL man, and the Raiders' Super Bowl rings, even though they were won after the team was in the NFL, carry the American Football League logo. I have no way of contacting the Raiders front office, but I'd like to suggest that in honor of Al, the Raiders add a permanent patch to their uniforms, similar to the one the Chiefs wear to honor Lamar Hunt. Below is an image of that patch, along with a couple possibilities for a Raiders patch. I'd appreciate it if these could be forwarded to Raiders' management by any fan or player who has contact with them. Regards, Ange Coniglio |

AS I reflect, Al Davis while ruler of the Dark Empire, was the "Frank Sinatra" of Football and a Professional contrarian. But you have to admire his work ethic, fantastic visionary, and tenacity for "winning" off and on the field. You have to admire the old guard. RIP

As a minority, I will always appreciate what Mr. Davis did for them in the league. What other owner can say they hired the first Latino and black head coach. Not only that, that they hired the highest ranking woman in NFL history, as CEO.
For this alone, he will be considered a visionary.

Except in KC.... Darren McFadden, Michael Bush, Matt Shaughnessy, Jared Veldheer, Stephen Wisnewski, Jacoby Ford, Denarius Moore, Taiwan Jones... Chiefs would use any of those guys on their team this year. "Al Davis makes Darth Vader look like a wimp." Hunter S. Thompson "In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and f*** -ups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get f***ed. Someday, the Raiders will be strong again, and they will dip the ball in s*** and shove it down the throats of the wholesome, white, heartland teams that pray together and don't deliver late hits." - George Carlin.

I liked Al. He was old school Brooklyn. He helped shape the NFL to what it is today. His team has a good history on par with any NFL franchise. He broke barriers. And, for as much as KC fans enjoy belittling the guy, his franchise has had more success than the Chiefs over the last 40 years.
Rest in peace, Al.

Some of you ChiefsFanz are OK dudes. You don't have to like a guy to respect him. I absolutely hated DT, but respected him as much as any player in the NFL. We truly appreciate the respect you have shown to our fallen leader. Seriously, we don't know what we are any more. In good times & bad - Al Davis was the Raiders. Feeling lost. He was only not involved in the organization for 3 of our 52 years. An AlDavis-less Raiders? We don't even know what that is....
