First Cruise

Looks like I won't be going to Baltimore. Something came up. Instead, I am going on my first cruise in September!

Tips? Already hearing about how to get liquor on board...lol.

I've read that cell phones do work, but that international charges may apply. I like the walkie-talkie idea.

Cruising is very American... overeating and getting drunk, slugging around all day. And for young people probably banging some stranger. You could see a new city in Europe for what you pay for a buffet and a deckchair on a cruise. Which will you remember more fondly when you are old - seeing one of the great cities in the world, or that week you shoveled unlimited crablegs and barfed daquiris in the toilet in your bunk?

A roundtrip ticket from Kansas City to anywhere in Europe is pretty ****ing expensive. Probably comparable to the amount I would pay for airfare+cruisefare+pre/post hotel.

Yeah, pro tip, put your cell phone on airplane mode and leave it on until you get back to the USA.

Five day cruise.
You will like Cozumel. If you have the whole day I recomend getting away from where the Cruzero's (like yourself) get dropped of and heading to the South of the Island (Punta Sur) and find yourself a nice little bar on the beach.
If you have just a half day go to the Baracauda and just swim and drink Bloody Mary's.

Does the Cruise go to Playa De Carmen?

More often than not you have to take a ferry to Playa de Carmen.

The beach buggy excursion that I posted about that I want to go on ends up at Punta Sur where I can snorkel or just get drinks and lay on the beach. The only two ports are the two I listed. Is Playa De Carmen close to either of those places?

No shit. I agree with the guy's general values he's espousing, but he clearly has no clue how much a cruise costs (or even better, an all inclusive somewhere in the Caribbean) vs. a trip to Europe. I'm all for adventure travel and dislike much of the culture of the All Inclusive homoegenization... but it's definitely economical (not to mention incredibly convenient) in comparison to trying to do it on your own.

You have to take the Ferry across...20-25 minute ride. I would go snorkel and lay on the beach at Punta Sur. But there is awesome food in Playa and great nudity.
