Gabbert going down bust avenue

So far, Gabbert doesn’t look ready for a leap

Posted by Evan Silva on August 1, 2012, 9:24 AM EDT

The Jacksonville Jaguars are reeling, and increasingly injured. And the new head coach has never even met the best player on the team. To be kind, the Jaguars’ season is off to a dysfunctional start.

There is a quick fix for all of this, though, and we’ve alluded to it before. And conveniently, the guy who can do it is already on the roster. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert can elevate the Jaguars’ 2012 performance if he takes a big leap in year two of his NFL career. Gabbert is the key to Jacksonville’s season.

According to ESPN.com AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky, however, Gabbert’s practice-field performance suggests he is not ready for that sophomore leap.

Kuharsky was in attendance for Tuesday’s practice, and wrote that Gabbert “didn’t look like a guy who’s made the big jump.” While Kuharsky guessed that Gabbert’s footwork has improved, the quarterback’s lingering accuracy woes were more noticeable.

“You watch it and don’t understand how it still happens,” Kuharsky wrote. “… I didn’t come away from this morning session feeling like he was much more effective than the last time I saw him.”

Accuracy and an utter lack of pocket composure were Gabbert’s primary downfalls during one of the worst rookie seasons by a quarterback in league history. It doesn’t sound like he’s corrected the accuracy flaw. We’ll know in Week One whether he’s overcome the pocket fear.

The Jaguars face Jared Allen’s Vikings in the season opener.

1. It's not about Chiefs fans not being Objective. It's SPORTS fans in general are not objective when it comes to their own team.

So please, gtfo your high horse and stop acting like you're so much smarter than the avg Chiefs fan. Every sports fan has a bit of homer in them, and every sports fan will defend certain players on their team far more than they will on others.

So wtf is your point?

Are you guys trying to tell me that I'm not looking at Gabbert's shittyness objectively? Because that's a load of BS and goes completely against Logic.

What evidence do you have, wtf would make you draw the conclusion that this fan base WOULDN'T support their 1st round Qb?

Because all i've heard for the last 2-3 ****ing years is how bad this fans base wants one.

This fan base will latch onto even an OUNCE of hope if that QB can give it to them.

Look no further than Ricky ****ing Stanzi for evidence of that, a 5th round draft pick ffs.
Because of how quickly QBs with legit first-round talent are proclaimed busts around here.

There would be initial support, no question, but I don't believe there would be much patience.

Sanchez, most notably. Even Freeman has drawn criticism. Bradford to a lesser extent.

I have yet to see anyone call Freeman a bust, and if a poll were taken, im sure the overwhelming majority would take Freeman over any vet aside from Manning that was available this offseason.

The only person i've seen talk shit about Bradford is that reerun JD1020 or someshit like that.

And you know why people are so quick to call Sanchez a bust?

Because the Drafturbators argued till they were blue in the face about how this team needed to draft Sanchez, and thus far, he has been anything but spectacular.

People are calling sanchez a bust simply to throw it back in YOUR face, after years of posters like you throwing it in theirs.

NONE of that means that this fan base wouldn't support their 1st rnd QB.

False.

Taking a QB high/trading up is exactly what CP is beggin' for.

He'd get a bigger leash than Pioli gives Ca$$hole...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

And if Sanchez were OUR QB, fans would defend and defend and make excuse after excuse.

If he were failing, it would be Pioli's fault somehow.

Bowe's fault for dropping the ball.

Albert's fault for not blocking well enough.

It'd be Moeaki's fault for being frail

It'd be Dabboll's fault for not being able to develop a QB

RAC's fault for being a shitty coach.

It'd be Hudson's fault for being undersized.

Baldwin's fault for being immature

Every goddamn excuse would be thrown out there if Sanchez were OUR QB. You know damn well they would.

If they look like a bust, there's always going to be fans who call him that, whether its after a year or a week.

And in reality, I'd guess a majority of QBs who get that label never shake it. In most cases, you're either good or you're not.

He has a hell of an arm. But he's always had accuracy/decision issues dating back to his HS days.

Are we talking Sanchez or Cassel? I'm confused.

Blaine ****ing Gabbert is 18 out of 26 for 174 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT this preseason.

Draft a QB or die trying.

38/48, 2/0, 345yds in 3 preseason games. That was Jake Delhomme with the Browns in 2010. I'm not saying that Gabbert hasn't improved but it really is difficult to judge success from the preseason.

Even if it was preseason, it's good for him to have a good game. He needs any type of confidence boost he can get.
