Dontari Poe

I watched the game last night on nfl.com but on a little computer screen. I was impressed with how Toribio and Powe did but didnt really see much from Poe.

For those of yall out there that had a better view, how did he fair.

Yeah, but in my case the nurse was too sexy to pass up and as a newborn I didn't have much experience.

I'm beginning to more and more believe that he'll be Dorsey's replacement. The sad part is Dorsey is in the last year of his contract and we can't trade him to a 43 team to get something back.

If as Dane predicts he commands little money outside we might as well sign him back and postpone his trade. I just hate to lose him outright.

I expect Poe to be the next Haloti Ngata, but it will take time. Hell Ngata didn't start becoming unstoppable until his 4th season and he plays in the Ravens defense for crying out loud.

Are you sure? He started every year he has been in the NFL and was all pro within 3rd year. You need to research first. The only thing Ngata and Poe have in common is they are big men and Poe's final college year stats match Ngata's worst year in college. Stop with that comparison.

There aren't a lot of college defenses that play the 0-technique, and usually defensive linemen play 1-gap (I think).

What's unique about 2-gap is that it's as much mental as it is physical. You have to learn how to read the offense so you understand your gap assignments. Especially if you're a Nose Tackle where you have to make that read in a split second. That's hard to coach through technique. That will only come with time, practice, and repetition. That's what drove me nuts about people who ripped on Tyson Jackson early on. He struggled not because he was a bad player, but because it took him a long time to read plays, so he was playing hesitant, often made the wrong reads, or often fired off the snap too late. That changed as he became more comfortable reading offenses.

But Poe is doubly challenged because his technique is off. He plays with his pads way too high and he doesn't have any hand technique. Those are very, very coachable things and I have no doubt he'll improve.

Poe "flashed" last night. Nearly got himself a sack or 2, just needs to finish. Saw a bit of that explosiveness which is nice.

I've read posts where people have said he played well, and I'm wondering if I was watching a different #92 last night.

The times I focused on him, he was slow out of his stance, getting pushed off the LOS by one guy and often eventually on the ground.

At one point I thought I was watching that scene from Wedding Crashers - "every time I look over here you're on your ass again."

I don't. I expect Poe to take Dorsey's place after we lose him next season. We will still be searching for a legit NT next year.

The game isn't available right now on preseason live. That might have something to do with it?

The DL was piss all night with exception to Tyson Jackson. I saw Poe play one down and was just completely washed out of the play. Go listen to Romeo's post game presser, he was smokin mad at the DL.
