I would NEVER cut a guy with Hali's work ethic over a lazy, sub-par WR. NTM, it is infinitely easier to replace a WR than it is to find a quality pass rusher. I know Hali isn't a spring chicken anymore, but the dude works his ass off, and I've never cussed at my tv for his effort. I can't say the same for #82.

Why do you call him a box safety when you know damn well that's not how they use him? You know better than that, you're just trying to marginalize Berry to support your argument.
And no, i never said S is more valuable than a passrusher. MY point is that Hali is an AGING, well paid pass rusher that is in fact diminishing. Aging pass rushers are released all the time. Combine that with the fact they already drafted his replacement (which no one seems to want to acknowledge in this debate) and it's easy to see the direction the Chiefs will be looking to go. In one hand you have an All-Pro, top 5 player in his prime with no other players of his caliber in the secondary (lets not forget the fact that almost every other player in our secondary is basically minimum wage and no large contracts are looming for any of them, except MAYBE Smith). And in the other hand you have an aging pass rusher with a fat contract, another pass rusher in his prime due for a HUGE contract and a 1st round pick being groomed to take Hali's spot. Is it REALLY this freaking hard to see the direction the Chiefs are most likely to lean?

just don't see it happening Berry will want to be paid like Byrd and co ... 9-ish million per Bowe isn't going to take a big paycut. He might do the paper restructure where he gets money upfront to reduce his cap number. we are going to have to decide who to keep and who to let go. Bowe is not like Megatron,AJ Green etc. They are trying Berry out deeper and we'll see how that works out because he is mostly a box type safety. you have to careful not to pay players way above their positional category or you will end up without enough cap room to pay your topend guys. If we give Houston a contract like J.J. Watt then he needs to be at DE most of the time. Just the way it is.

Especially when the rest of our secondary is making peanuts. Spending a little money in the secondary isn't a bad thing.

As much potential as Dee Ford may have, I guarantee that if Hali were to miss considerable time, his absence would be seen. |

They didn't draft Ford to sit on the bench. Ford, Houston, Berry, Bailey, Poe. That's the future of this defense. DJ and Hali, sadly we wasted their best years.

The dropoff from Ford to Frank Zombo could be the difference between the playoffs and no playoffs. IMO, it would be in the Chiefs best interest to keep the pass rusher and trade the safety. |

He's gonna get around that. Contracts inflate, and he's an All-Pro player in his prime.
Those kinda players generally get the prettiest pennies.

I honestly doubt anything happens with any of the above mentioned players this offseason, and if something does happen, it'll be with Hali. It's not realistic to have that much money tied up in your OLB's, especially with a 1st round pick waiting in the wings. Houston is going to get $$$Paid$$$, and all signs point to Hali being the odd-man out.

What is it about THIS defense that makes you think it de-values the safety? Everything i've read or heard seems to suggest the opposite.
