I may be crazy, but if motivates correctly and can stay healthy, I could see Ray being similar to Ford.

On that weak side of the line, you're going to have Jones plus whoever, and they're going to get a lot of 1 on 1's no matter what. I'm not opposed to taking a flyer on Ray, or Vinny Curry, or whoever. I don't know about Ray being a DE, but we'll see. I like Flowers because he's young, good all-around, and has played for Daly already. If they're going to draft a DE high, then an older vet stop-gap is cool. |

The issue is just where the Chiefs are picking in the first. At 29, you're just not gonna have the chance to get a guy that's likely to come in an be a force at edge rusher. So you've gotta dip into free agency.
That's not cheap. The big issue that this comes back to is blowing those 2nd round picks on guys that were supposed to develop and replace these aging pass rushers. One of them can't even get on the field and the other just looked to be out of place as a rookie. |

I'm not as high on Flowers as some but for all the hand-wringing about Trey Flowers' sack total, chew on this.
Trey Flowers' NFL career: 7 sacks, 6.5 sacks, 7.5 sacks. Dee Ford's NFL career: 0 sacks, 4 sacks, 10 sacks, 0 sacks, 13 sacks That's what it comes down to. Once guy is solid and dependable. The other guy is a coin flip between brilliant and brokedick. We're not all ever going to agree on this. These 2 preferences go to the core of our character and what we value. |

Trey Flowers produced average production on a superior defense with the leagues best coaching. Dee Ford out produced him in every category on a Bob Sutton led Chiefs D. You think 1 year of Dee Ford is a risk. I think 4+ years of Trey Flowers is an even bigger risk.

I’m really happy with Flowers as the starter at RDE/Leo in the base set with Speaks at LDE. Flowers is versatile enough to be effective there.
Also like the idea of signing someone like Shane Ray as a cheap Ford speed rush replacement. Ray at RDE would be a nice sub-package piece to play with. I’d also be on board with Chris Long, but he may too much of a progressive activist for Hunt.

Gonna be fun to watch this all play out.
If they're able to land any draft compensation for Ford/Houston i can't imagine they won't use some of these picks to trade for young, 1st contract-type guys. Like Fuller.

It definitely makes the offseason fun to follow. You just get the feeling that Veach is going to ALWAYS be busy.

Imo they should go all in on a star CB like him.
If utilized correctly, a guy like that changes the whole defense and let’s you match up against everyone better. Even BB has always paid big $$$ for good CBS that can match up on opposing 1s. |
