The NBA, NFL and MLB are dreaming up ways to play amid a pandemic, with talk of isolating players in Arizona or Las Vegas or maybe on the moon. It all sounds great, until you talk to people who actually know science.

To be fair, the virus isnt going to last from china to the states if you are getting a pair of underwear or something. It would be long dead before it got to your door step. Like at my door way, i have a big ass container of cleaning wipes and i wipe my packages at the door.

The concern of course is that what happens when a player or two gets infected during season or weekly practice?!
The good news is that the season doesn't start until September. By mid-summer we will have a clearer picture as to what happens.

In September is way too early to have 80K fans in one place. Its going to suck. I just don't see us having a "normal" season.

Even if there is no fans, one player, coach, front off ice personnel, janitor, scout gets it, it can take a whole team off the field for 15 days.

There’s gonna be a breaking point somewhere in terms of people’s patience.

Eventually the whole lockdown thing is gonna have to wrap up, people can’t do this forever. The pressure from having to live and support families like this will outweigh whatever they feel like the risk is of the virus.

I was replying to the second sentence in the post...that hospitalizations and deaths are seen -almost exclusively- in the elderly, and people with respiratory problems. That’s not at all true. But yeah, put nine old ladies with COPD in a car with a linebacker and drive it off a cliff. The linebacker is more likely to survive. So if that’s the point. Yes you are correct.

He suggested no fans and weekly testing.

Appearing on Snapchat's Peter Hamby show, "Good Luck America," Fauci said, "There's a way of doing that. Nobody comes to the stadium. Put [the players] in big hotels, wherever you want to play, keep them very well surveilled ... and have them tested every single week and make sure they don't wind up infecting each other or their family, and just let them play the season out."

"People say you can't play without spectators. Well, I think you will probably get enough buy in if from people who are dying to see a baseball game, particularly me. I'm living in Washington. We have the world champion Washington Nationals and I want to see them play again," he added.

If he says that then an all-Arizona league plan for baseball makes the most sense. Chase Field keeps the dome closed and accommodates around three games per day with preference given to East Coast teams for television purposes.

Everyone else plays at the Cactus League and college parks at night. The league can broker deals with the local hotels to put up enough rooms for players and office personnel. Maybe you let players with families rent out single homes if a magically cheap way to get instant testing is available.
