HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

I thought the Knot was actually an event in the story and having the threads meet, not the whole book itself. I could be wrong, though.

It is. As I understand it deals with the arrival of a couple of characters to Mereen.

Haha, great rant, I feel you. And if that wasn't bad enough, he ends the next chapter with the Hound's axe getting Arya in the head. That, even more than the red wedding itself, was almost too much for me. I NEVER, I mean N-E-V-E-R skip ahead when reading a book, but for the first time ever, I did at that point to see if there was another Arya POV chapter. If there hadn't been, I might have stopped reading right then, at least for a while, but of course there was and I was immediately sucked right back in. Dammit Martin!

No no, the Hound uses the flat side to stop her from running into where she was sure to get killed. It seems like she dies because Martin ends the chapter saying his axe hits her head, but I flipped ahead and saw she still had point of view chapters, so she wasn't dead. If he had killed her, it would have been too much for me, but he didn't. Not yet anyway. The Hound saved her, which is weird in itself. He's an interesting character. So many of Martin's characters are.

You really should read the books, they're great reads. I read through them so quickly because I was dying to know what happens, and his pacing can be a little slow, but I'm reading them a second time now more slowly, and the details I am picking up the second time through are really making it just as enjoyable as the first read, but in a different way.

Thanks man. After Eddard, Arya, Jon Snow, and Tyrion are my favorite characters. Danerys is also growing on me with her maturation. I'm not gonna ask which one is already dead as far as you have read, but I'm glad Arya is alive.

In thinking about the way things are moving (in the books), I'm not convinced that GRRM isn't setting up the remaining (by DWD) Starks to become antagonists with the Lannisters being protagonists. I think the evil bastard might just get a kick out of that. The only thing that I think would keep him from doing it is that I know he has a soft spot in his heart for the Starks.

One other thing that may not have been obvious to non-readers was that the older kid that stood up for Arry against the two bullies was the kid that Ned visited at the blacksmith (one of Robert's bastards). In fact, you can see him carrying his horned helmet (the one he showed Ned) as the caravan is moving out.

Excellent finale. They nailed it on just about every point. Everything is set up beautifully for next season.

Finished last night finally. Just really excellent.

I guess the thing I'm most impressed with, though, is how well-received this series has been by the "normal" television viewer. The salon.com critic is putting it in the same category as The Sopranos or Deadwood and thinks people will quote GoT in the future thesame way they quote The Godfather now.

In the comments sections of the article, there are tons and tons of people offering huge praise for the series often prefaced with, "I'm not a fan of fantasy, but...."
