The Motorcycle Discussion Thread
I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.
Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16) Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you: Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel) C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too. http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75 Last edited by Dayze; 10-29-2016 at 09:02 PM.. |

I purchased a new toy hauler, and I needed a Wheel Chock to secure the bike.
There are so many choices to be had. Anything from $29.00-$400. I decided that is must meet these needs. 1. Hold the bike upright so I can strap it down myself. This was important because often the wife isn't going on the trips, and it needs to be a one man job. 2. Be Removable. Since the toy hauler is the camper, I wanted a removable system that wont take up floor space. 3. Be adjustable for multiple bikes. Since I have a couple of Motorcycles I need it to work from anything from 14 inch tire to 21. And you never know when I might purchase a new ride. 4. Be able to work on a Garage floor for Maintenance. So ultimately I got this unit. A Condor Pit Stop Trailer Stop. Not cheap, but quality unit. I ended up spending $230 for this unit. That includes the quick mount system. Last edited by Graystoke; 03-30-2015 at 07:12 AM.. Reason: Left out model |

First time I've had to have only the oil changed in my Road King since I bought it. At 1000 and 5000 it was change all fluids, which was around $280 each time. I'm at just over 8k miles so I figured I would do just the oil and regular, not synthetic. I figure that I should hit the 10k changing of fluids sometime this summer. Would love to be able to ride a lot more than I have but I'm always busy with something, it seems. Anyway, just changing the oil cost me $81. Pretty sad when the cost of an oil change in the car last week was $24.

The new bike has one. It is infinitely more comfortable than the seat on my old bike, but it was a 30 year old stock seat. The Mustang seat on the new one has a driver back rest. Only have about 40 miles on it so far, but I felt like I could have ridden all night. Stupid rain cut my ride short.
I also have a question for you guys. The windscreen on this bike has that foggy build up, and I noticed last night after dark that it was really inhibiting my vision. I could not see potholes or if critters were running out in front of me. Do you guys know of any polish or anything that might restore the windscreen? I'm thinking of changing it out with a fairing before long, so I don't really want to buy a new one.

Plexiglass is damned difficult to polish without burning/melting, let alone keeping it optically sound once you're done.
You can try some of the consumer grade liquid polishes, but they don't work well if the surface is damaged enough to affect visibility. Clear coat polish works, but you'll need a low RPM buffer, preferably random orbital. Don't try this with a drill adapter like you can with glass, you'll just burn the plastic. |

I tried one and it really didn't really make a difference.
